A Boy and His Dog is a 1975 American science fiction post-apocalyptic black comedy film set in the then futuristic year of 2024. The movie has achieved cult status over the years since it's release. The screenplay is based on a 1969 novella ,and a couple short stories, written by Harlan Ellison in the late sixties. The movie stars a young Don Johnson as an 18 year old amoral teenager called Vic and his telepathic dog; Blood (voiced by Tim McIntire). The duo roams a world devastated by a massive nuclear war that took place in 2007. The movie was written, produced and directed by actor L.Q. Jones. Both the movie and the stories (in addition to Ellison's 1968 Hugo winning short story "I Have No Mouth, and I Must Scream") are believed by some movie scholars to have been a source of inspiration for director James Cameron when he wrote The Terminator.
The following weapons were used in the film A Boy and His Dog:
Handguns
Webley "WG" Army Model Revolver
Vic (Don Johnson) also carries a Webley "WG" Army Model top break revolver, notable by the "Bird Head" grip, visible when he is attempting to open the door almost an hour into the film.
Merwin Hulbert Model Revolver
The movie theater guard is seen inspecting a Merwin Hulbert revolver. The movie theater guard is played by Tim McIntire who was the voice for Vic's (Don Johnson) dog Blood. He was not credited for playing the guard.
Rifles
M1903 in a Mannlicher Schönauer Carbine stock
Vic (Don Johnson) carries a cut down Springfield M1903 Rifle with a Lyman peep sight and fitted into a Mannlicher Schönauer Carbine (Stutzen) stock.
Winchester Model 1873 Rifle
A rival gang member shoots at Vic with what appears to be a Winchester Model 1873 with Short Magazine after Vic steals from him.
M16A1
During the shootout with the other gang, Quilla June Holmes (Susanne Benton) briefly uses an M16A1 that Blood brought her.
Shotgun
Double Barreled Shotgun
A Double Barreled Shotgun is carried by the guard (Tim McIntire) at the movie theater.
