The alien weapons seen in the film are listed below. Weapon names based on scientist's placards during test fires.

I think the pic below may just be a promotional image and feature a gun that was never actually used in the film.
| |||
And there is a second unnamed gun being carried out of D9 by the MNU. This one is very large (seen below). Still looking into the source of the third.
| |||
| |||
The repulsor type weapon is the AMR - B13 and the large one that Wikus Van De Merwe finds ends up being a flamethrower type weapon that fires a green flame taggartusmaximus
*Actually the gun used on the Nigerians is smaller than the AMR-B13 and colored white and has three cylinders at the end (the AMR-B43). The large gun I was referring to is being carried out of District 9 by a group of workers. The flamethrower is the AMR-B07.

==Adding Categories==
I know there was a debate regarding the page having categorizations (though it seems the debate was minor and quite some time ago), but it seems it was decided to not have them on the page. That said, frankly, it seems the page could benefit from that kind of organization, whats more, many pages on the site, including several prominent movies that previously didn't have categories (referenced in the previous discussion) have since been edited to have categories. I've taken the liberty of just doing this on other pages but since there was a prior debate on this involving an admin I wanted to bring it up and get other views before proceeding. StanTheMan (talk) 19:10, 23 February 2014 (EST)
: Personally, I think all pages should be categorized. It's neater and much better-looking.--Mandolin (talk) 19:38, 23 February 2014 (EST)
:: Well if a page has only a few guns it may not be necessary, especially if they're only one or two types of guns. I wouldn't expect a page with five pistols and one shotgun to necessarily have categories, much less if it had just the five pistols. But this page has quite a few firearms, and various types of those firearms. Again though, there was a debate over this, which is why I made a note about it and asked for other views rather than just go ahead with it. I actually think it's a Beretta 92SB throughout the entirety of the film, with the exception of maybe that last shot in the 92FS section where is kinda sorta not really looks like a squared trigger guard.I say this because it has an unfinished steel guide rod and a shinier than normal blue finish, something normally only seen on SB models, and aside from the one aforementioned screencap, you usually don't get a clear look at the trigger guard, but when you do, it's round.

I am sorry, but I cannot see how anybody can be sure that it is an FN FAL. The film obviously occurs in South Africa, and they obviously have access to a large amount of South African military technology (as exemplified by the presence of R4 series rifles, BXP submachine guns, SS-77 machine guns, NTW-20 anti-material rifles, Atlas Oryx helicopters, and Cassipir armored cars) so how can anyone be sure that this is not an R1. It fits all of the pictures I have seen of earlier-manufactured R1s (which do feature wooden furniture and contain Belgian-made components) and it only makes since that it would be an R1. Would the person who changed the article please present his case?SAWGunner89 15:06, 26 August 2009 (UTC) | I am sorry, but I cannot see how anybody can be sure that it is an FN FAL. I like how this page is divided. What I mean is how you divide the guns into guns from each series (for example, making a section for the Beretta 92 Pistol series) and then subdivide them into each gun (making a subsection for the Beretta 92FS). I might incorporate that idea into future pages. -Gunman69 15:54, 26 September 2009 (UTC) | I like how this page is divided. =removed | ==Chronological order==
I | Why were all the specific weapons categories removed? Would it not be better to have the weapons be chronologically listed, but by specific type (pistol, rifle etc.); I'm curious, because I think some of the larger pages with many weapons (such as Street Kings or Hard Boiled) could benefit from such organization. --Markit 03:22, 28 December 2009 (UTC)
:I removed the weapons categories because it was unorthodox - weapons categories digresses from the format of the rest of the website. You'll notice that the pages for The Matrix, Heat, Black Hawk Down, Terminator 2, (I could go on and on) are not formatted this way. Besides 26 weapons is not very much anyways....pages like the TV show Miami vice would be understandable in having a format that way because there is an insane amount of guns in that series. --AdAstra2009 03:56, 28 December 2009 (UTC)
::I would not say the order in which the page was originally formatted was "unorthodox", because there are a number of other pages that also have similar formats, and there is no one standard that is stipulated on the rules page. Besides, it isn't as if the featured pages all have standardized formats either, since some have the most prominent weapons listed first, not in chronological order. Also, 26 weapons may not be a lot compared to TV shows with multiple seasons, but it is also a large enough number that anyone who doesn't know the exact name of the weapon they are looking for might find it problematic. I think that categories would be more useful for someone who doesn't want to read the entire page (and its numerous screencaps) if they are looking for the ID of only one weapon. A further question would be what number of weapons actually constitutes "many" for the moderators?--Markit 04:24, 28 December 2009 (UTC)
:I do not know. Something along the lines of the amount of weapons being overwhelming. 29 weapons is sort of average for an action film. --AdAstra2009 05:02, 28 December 2009 (UTC)

== Query about Alive in Joburg section ==
In the Alive in Joburg section above, the rifle held by Copley in the helicopter is described as an FN FAL or R1, while the scoped bolt-action rifle seen next to him in the stationary shots is listed as "unused".
However, looking at the pictures, it seems pretty clear that the rifle he holds in flight is bolt-action. Now, I'm quite happy to imagine a scoped R1, but unless the R1/FAL has suddenly developed a combed stock and an external, cylindrical bolt I'd hazard a guess that the rifle he's holding is actually the same rifle that's standing next to him in the interview.

= | == What is the BW90? == | ||
I recently tried to do a bit of search on the internet for some of the entries on this page without weapon images. The BW-90 struck me as kinda odd. No other sources mention it with regards to it being "the 1st prototype for the CR21". The only other source that mentions its existence and provides an image is a page on the South African movie armourer company Hire Arms, here, who I'm pretty sure also provided weapons to the film alongside Olly Steele's company. However, it is listed under "Custom Builds", and what's more interesting is that according to the home page of Hire Arms, the company was founded by Bruce Wentzel, who according to the page designed the BW90. Sources do confirm that Bruce Wentzel is an actual gunsmith in addition to being a movie armorer, but is there any source where we can validate that the BW90 is an actual real weapon and not an invention made by Hire Arms?
(another note, Operation Delta Force 3: Clear Target, where a BW-90 is seemingly seen is indeed also armed by Olly Steele)

Additional
Alive in Joburg
Alive in Joburg is the 2005 short film which became the basis for the 2009 film District 9. The short was directed by Neill Blokamp and starred Sharlto Copley, who would go on to make the feature film together.
The following weapons were used in the film Alive In Joburg:
FN SCAR-L
The two (apparently CG) soldiers who attack the bio-suited "Poleepkwa" use FN SCAR-Ls, with scopes and fore-grips attached.
Unknown Rifle
Unused by the sniper (Sharlto Copley).
FAL (Or, Likely, R1)
An FN FAL rifle is used by the Sniper (Sharlto Copley) on patrol.
Beretta 92FS (?)
Constable Bongani Zulu uses one of these.
Norinco Type 56
A Poleepkwa is seen using a Norinco Type 56 to fire on police officers. One is also seen in the back of an apprehended vehicle.
Pump-Action Rifle/Shotgun
Seen at the beginning of the film in the hands of a police officer. The weapon appears to have a rather small diameter barrel and magazine tube, this is is likely a rifle, though could possibly be a smaller caliber shotgun.
Vektor R6
Bongani Zulu's partner uses this to fire on a Poleepkwa with a Type 56.
Uzi
A police officer is seen with a full-size Uzi.
Toy Micro-Uzi
A child is seen with a toy Micro Uzi.
FN Minimi
South African troops are seen with the FN Minimi.
- The shot is from archival footage of South African soldiers during the 1980s, so the stock is more likely that of a R4 rifle (Galil).
- On the far left, it's a Minimi. You can tell. I think there's a shot that shows the rear sights, and the pistol grip is more in line with a Minimi than an R4.
1911-style pistol, likely Star BS
Constable Zulu or his partner is seen with a Star Model BS stuck in the back of his pants while apprehending a Poleepkwa criminal.
Alien Weapons
NOTE - I have removed the "Alien Weapons" section based on the following IMFDB listing of Fictional Firearms
Namely the 5th rule> "Fantasy weapons which have no basis in real weapons technology do not belong here. So a Force Lance from "Andromeda" or a Klingon Disruptor from "Star Trek" or a Light Sabre from "Star Wars" do not qualify. No one would ever wonder if these weapons really exist today."--AdAstra2009 03:05, 28 December 2009 (UTC)
The alien weapons seen in the film are listed below. Weapon names based on scientist's placards during test fires.
"AMR-B05"
Prawn assault rifle used by Christopher Johnson in the attack on MNU headquarters.
"AMR-B07"
Prawn flamethrower, although it is also seen being used as a mortar in news footage early in the film.
"AMR-B13"
"AMR-B21"
Wikus Van De Merwe (Sharlto Copely) and Christopher Johnson both use these alien weapons during the shootout at MNU headquarters. When hit the weapon's energy beam will insta-gib a human.
"AMR-B43"
This repulsor or sonic type gun was used to deal with the Nigerians.
Still unnamed alien firearms
I think the pic below may just be a promotional image and feature a gun that was never actually used in the film.
And there is a second unnamed gun being carried out of D9 by the MNU. This one is very large (seen below). Still looking into the source of the third.
The repulsor type weapon is the AMR - B13 and the large one that Wikus Van De Merwe finds ends up being a flamethrower type weapon that fires a green flame taggartusmaximus
- Actually the gun used on the Nigerians is smaller than the AMR-B13 and colored white and has three cylinders at the end (the AMR-B43). The large gun I was referring to is being carried out of District 9 by a group of workers. The flamethrower is the AMR-B07.
Discussion
Adding Categories
- Personally, I think all pages should be categorized. It's neater and much better-looking.--Mandolin (talk) 19:38, 23 February 2014 (EST)
- Well if a page has only a few guns it may not be necessary, especially if they're only one or two types of guns. StanTheMan (talk) 20:20, 23 February 2014 (EST)
Unknown AK
Could it possibly be a modified Saiga?
it could be a Kbs wz. 1996 Beryl. it would make sense, since most of the mercs use rifles that fire 5.56x45 and if i remeber correctly it had a folding skeletal stock
The RPG-7 looks like an AT4/something similar to me
It looks too streamlined to be an RPG-7 to me. If it were an RPG-7, shouldn't the sights be at least a bit taller? Spartan198
- Saw the film last night and I believe it was an RPG-7. --24.63.181.248 22:11, 15 August 2009 (UTC)
Actually, just looks like the sights were never flipped up.
Beretta 92FS
I was watching this video and toward the end an MNU soldier is seen holding a Beretta 92FS. Here's the link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v7Cy9u_-O54 -Gunman69 23:39, 31 July 2009 (UTC)
It is Beretta 92FS or Vector Z88?
I actually think it's a Beretta 92SB throughout the entirety of the film, with the exception of maybe that last shot in the 92FS section where is kinda sorta not really looks like a squared trigger guard.I say this because it has an unfinished steel guide rod and a shinier than normal blue finish, something normally only seen on SB models, and aside from the one aforementioned screencap, you usually don't get a clear look at the trigger guard, but when you do, it's round.
Anti Material Rifle
In the fight scene with the robot, the Anti-Material Rifle used to damage his mech-suit is a Denel NTW-20. Did not get a close enough look to see if it was configured in 20mm or the smaller, higher velocity 14.5mm. Also spotted the Mechem BXP. This one is the 20mm. Olly Steele.
Trivia
This rifle are very familiar whit the HALO Sniper rifle S2 AM it says in the HALO Manual that it fires 14,5 mm armor piercing bullets It have the possibility of be a Recicled HALO movie sniper rifle since the director of district 9 is the same who was doing HALO movie this is a recycled HALO gun. search youtube for halo landfall or combat pt I&II there is a scene in it where an ODST trooper shoots brutes with it. note: this isnt a full length film its about 5-10 long.
- That's because the Halo one was designed AFTER THE MECHEM.-protoAuthor 22:59, 15 November 2009 (UTC)
the Mechem NTW-20 is a halo shout out, and there is a Half Life 2 shout out
Drum fed large bore
I didn't get a good look, but it appeared to be an Alliance Armament Wraithmaker drum on a Saiga-12 --173.173.112.176 03:09, 18 August 2009 (UTC)
Alien Weapons
I love how the main character's weapon of choice is a super-soaker-esque alien gun that shoots electricity, which he uses to make people explode in a hilarious manner-S&Wshooter 22:39, 18 August 2009 (UTC)
Other alien guns are a ray gun that's like an anti-tank weapon, a mortar launcher, assault rifle, one that shoots sonic rays, a flamethrower, and some others i cant remember.
- Added some of the alien guns' actual name designations. -UW
Message to Olly Steele
First off, glad to see an armorer posting on here on the movie they did. And great job on D9's weapons. But, what's up with Tunnel Rats? No offense. Also, what was that drum-fed weapon? -protoAuthor
What about 'Tunnel Rats'? It was quite a while ago that I worked on that. The drum fed weapon in D9 is the Striker 12ga shotgun. Olly Steele.
FN FAL vs. R1
Would the person who changed the article please present his case?SAWGunner89 15:06, 26 August 2009 (UTC)
- I think Olly himself edited it. He was the armourer of the movie. So if anyone knows if it's a FAL, it's him.-Oliveira 17:39, 27 August 2009 (UTC)
- If that is the case then I will believe him. Is there a way we can get in touch with Olly to confirm this? I would just like to be as sure as possible. It would also be nice if he coud explain his edits.SAWGunner89 03:56, 28 August 2009 (UTC)
- I just love the fact that we have a few real armorers in this site. Makes the job so much easier. Excalibur01 17:06, 11 September 2009 (UTC)
- What's the name of that resturant that Wikus eats at? - Swordfish941

Page Setup
I like how this page is divided. What I mean is how you divide the guns into guns from each series (for example, making a section for the Beretta 92 Pistol series) and then subdivide them into each gun (making a subsection for the Beretta 92FS). I might incorporate that idea into future pages. -Gunman69 15:54, 26 September 2009 (UTC)
AMR-B21
- "When hit the weapon's energy beam will insta-gib a human."
I like to call it the "Splattergun". --MattyDienhoff 17:15, 20 November 2009 (UTC)
Got this on iTunes
I'll try to screencap some stuff until someone can do some better. Just gotta wait for it to download.-protoAuthor 03:29, 26 December 2009 (UTC)
Chronological order
Why were all the specific weapons categories removed? Would it not be better to have the weapons be chronologically listed, but by specific type (pistol, rifle etc.); I'm curious, because I think some of the larger pages with many weapons (such as Street Kings or Hard Boiled) could benefit from such organization. --Markit 03:22, 28 December 2009 (UTC)
- I removed the weapons categories because it was unorthodox - weapons categories digresses from the format of the rest of the website.
- I would not say the order in which the page was originally formatted was "unorthodox", because there are a number of other pages that also have similar formats, and there is no one standard that is stipulated on the rules page.
- I do not know. Something along the lines of the amount of weapons being overwhelming. 29 weapons is sort of average for an action film. --AdAstra2009 05:02, 28 December 2009 (UTC)
What is this?
I'm not sure what handgun is in the foreground. It looks like a Walther P38/P1, but I'm not so sure if that would be common in South Africa.
--AdAstra2009 18:15, 30 December 2009 (UTC)
South African Police used the Walther P38 for years, before switching to more modern equipment, so the P38 must be readily available in the country Rafa 11:08, 26 August 2010 (UTC)
can anyone get screencaps of the soldier prodding the alien and then being kicked like a motherhubba
if you can thanks

RPK
That's not an actual RPK. The receiver cuts are characteristic of the Galil/Valmet/R4 milled receiver. The milled RPK receiver cuts are the same as milled AK receiver cuts. That, and it's got the prominent Galil/Valmet/R4 magazine release lever.
Minigun
The page currently asserts that the minigun must be fake, because the muzzle flash appears in the centre. From the still image shown, the flash could just as easily be emitted from the barrel at the 3 o'clock position, which would be perfectly consistent with a minigun in certain mount configurations. What does it look like in motion? Awmperry 17:39, 20 February 2010 (UTC)
Prop company?
I work as a gunwriter here in Italy, and I am trying to find out who supplied the guns for DISTRICT 9. Can anybody provide the name of the company? Thanks! --TheTranc 12:12, 25 August 2010 (GMT+1)
- Olly Steele was the armorer/weapons master for the film, I do not know what company he works for though. --AdAstra2009 16:57, 25 August 2010 (UTC)
- Olly Steele has his own company, I believe, but some of the weapons also came from Hire Arms. -MT2008 17:07, 25 August 2010 (UTC)
BW-90-First time on screen?
Are we certain District 9 is the first film to feature the BW-90?
This is from a 1999 film called "Operation Delta Force 3: Clear Target." The weapon pictured looks remarkably like the BW-90 seen on the District 9 page (the film was shot in South Africa-many of the other characters use Vektor R5s). Is it possible that some low-budget flick from the 90s holds the title of the first film to feature the BW-90?--Lynx 22:36, 6 June 2011 (CDT)
Query about Alive in Joburg section
What say you? Worth editing? Awmperry (talk) 18:29, 2 July 2015 (EDT)
FN MAG/M240
The machine gun in the helicopter that is identified as a Vektor SS-77 looks a lot more like an FN MAG, note the distinctive cross bolts on the receiver. In comparison ,the Vektor has a much smoother apperance from that side.AgentGumby (talk) 15:25, 12 August 2015 (EDT)
What is the BW90?
(another note, Operation Delta Force 3: Clear Target, where a BW-90 is seemingly seen is indeed also armed by Olly Steele) --Wuzh (talk) 01:06, 13 February 2018 (EST)
