Vietcong 2 is the sequel to the tactical first person shooter Vietcong. As in the first game, the player will take on the role of US Army Special Forces team leader, Captain Daniel Boone, during the Vietnam War. Unlike its predecessor, it is also possible to play as the Viet Cong in a short secondary campaign. Players take on the role of Minh, a young Vietnamese man from a village in South Vietnam. Both the US and Viet Cong campaigns take place in and around the city of Hue during the Tet Offensive of January 1968.
Vietcong 2 is the sequel
As in the first | |||
In single player one is allowed to carry a knife, a handgun, two primary weapons, two types of hand grenades, C4 explosives, a LAW, and a first-aid kit. Unlike Vietcong the player cannot choose their starting equipment during the campaign; this can only done in the "Single Mission" mode, where the player can play the missions one by one. With a few exceptions, the non-player-characters have randomly selected guns. Also notable some "weapon groups" for this random selection: earlier Vietcong may spawn armed with an SKS, a MAT-49 or a PPSh-41; NVA soldiers and later Vietcong are armed with an SKS, an Sa vz. 58 or an AK-47; VC machine gunners may have an Sa vz. 58 or an RPD for example. The exceptions are the teammates, the snipers, the RPG-7 gunners and the Vietcong armed with the Baikal IZh-43. However these last two types drop a randomly generated handgun.
Another odd thing is that most of the pistol-caliber weapons are chambered for the wrong caliber; the specifics of these errors are described below.

The following weapons appear in the video game Vietcong 2:
Handguns
Colt M1911A1
The Colt M1911A1 appears in-game as the "M-1911 A1".
Makarov PM
The Makarov PM appears in-game as the "Makarov". It incorrectly uses 9x19mm Parabellum.
Mauser C96
The Mauser C96 appears in-game as the "Mauser C96 mod.1912". It is incorrectly stated to be chambered in 9x18mm Makarov, even though the rounds in the clip are clearly not.
Nagant M1895
An integrally-suppressed Nagant M1895 appears in-game as the "Nagant mod.1895 (silencer)". It is incorrectly chambered in .38 Special.
Smith & Wesson Model 27
The Smith & Wesson Model 27 appears in-game as the "S&W mod.27". It is described as using .357 Magnum in multiplayer, but the ammunition itself is referred to as .38 Special.
Smith & Wesson 39
The suppressed Smith & Wesson 39 from the previous game appears as the "S&W mod.39 (silencer)". Also like the previous game, it is incorrectly chambered in .45 ACP.
