Now retired Dean Smith was a professional Hollywood stuntman for decades. He was also an outstanding athlete. He won a gold medal at the 1952 summer olympics in Helsinki, Finland in the 4x100 meter relay and also played professional football with the L.A. Rams for a couple seasons. In additon to football and track and field Smith was a top level professional rodeo cowboy.He was friends with John Wayne and worked in many many westerns over the years.
