Apewar is an upcoming FPS/TPS online tactical shooter, developed and published by the Gombe Games on the Unity engine. The game was released to Early Acess on March 3rd, 2023, with the full release to be announced. Despite the game being in Early Acess, it has already received overwhelmingly positive reviews on Steam.
Gombe Games stated that the inspiration for this came from the Gombe Chimpanzee War, a violent power struggle between two chimpanzee groups in the Gombe National Park, that occurred between 1974-1978. Like the warring factions in the real power struggle, players can fight for either Kahama or Kasakela, named after their real-life counterparts. The player can choose between four playable characters: Monkey, Gorilla, Chimpanzee, or Caveman, and four classes: Assault, Engineer, Support, and Scout. Several maps also feature combined warfare, where players can operate several vehicle types, ranging from buses to the M1 Abrams battle tank.
The following weapons appear in the video game Apewar:
Handguns
Colt Python
The Colt Python or as it is referred to in-game as REVAP6. The model in-game has a modified handguard, permitting the primates to operate the handgun more efficiently.
Glock "style" pistol
A Glock "style" handgun with a muzzle brake appears as the APEP-1. The gun is possibly modeled after the G17 Pro.
Submachine Guns
Brügger & Thomet KH9
SMG-4 or the Brügger & Thomet KH9 is currently the only counterpart to UMP-45, trading a higher rate of fire for lower damage. With the M4A1, it is the only fully decked-out weapon in the Apewar.
UMP-45
As in most of the videogames featuring the UMP45 or SEMGE5, this submachine gun has a lower rate of fire, but higher damage output.
Shotguns
Double-Barreled Shotgun
The standard double barrel shotgun, or DOUBAP8, sacrifices range for increased damage.
SPAS-12
The only semi-automatic shotgun so far in Apewar, the SHOTAP-04, is modeled after the Spas-12, missing the stock.
Rifles
AK-47
The AK-47 or APE47, appears as one of the two primary faction weapons of the Apewar.
M4A1
The A4PE1, a wordplay on the M4A1 is one of the primary weapons for the Apewar factions.
Sniper Rifles
McMillan TAC-308
The standard issue sniper rifle of the Apewar is APEEYE02, modeled after the McMilan TAC-308.
MICOR Defense Leader 50
The seldom-seen MICOR Defense Leader 50 appears as the heavier of the game's two sniper rifles, under the name "AUTAPA5".
Machine Guns
MAS AA-52
HMM-60, or the MAS AA-52, is currently the only machine gun available in Apewar, retaining balanced stats in tune with the sandbox.
Launchers
Milkor Grenade Launcher
The Milkor Grenade Launcher appears in the Apewar as the APEBOMBER93, missing the stock.
RPG-7
The true, battle-tested RPG-7 appears under the name of APE7, continuing the naming of the guns with ape word derivates.
