Hunters is a 2020 American thriller series. It is inspired by post-WWII Nazi hunters as a whole, but doesn't focus on any individual person. It takes place primarily in New York City in 1977 and focuses on two primary characters, Jonah Heidelbaum (Logan Lerman), a young man who joins a vigilante band of Nazi hunters, and Special Agent Millie Morris (Jerrika Hinton), an FBI agent working to uncover Operation Paperclip. Both must work together to stop the coming rise of the Fourth Reich, a massive conspiracy of Nazi survivors in Argentina, former Nazi scientists brought over by Operation Paperclip, and Neo-Nazis.
The show draws from a number of real-world things, using them as story explanations and character's motivations such as Operation Paperclip, the New York City blackout of 1977, and law enforcement's general failure to keep up with exploding crime rates. It also draws on modern Jewish humor, highly stylistic depictions of Nazis, the since-uncovered state of the Vietnam war's veterans, and satirization of Blaxploitation, to create characters that are authentic to the 1970s while applying a layer of the zeitgeist of the 2020s.
