Far East War is a 2013 modification developed by fans of the game for the RTS game Company of Heroes: Opposing Fronts, created by many skillful modders with a lot of historical knowledge, coming from different countries and regions. The theme of this mod is the war between China and Japan from 1937 to 1945, also known as the Second Sino-Japanese War, in which the player can command the National Revolutionary Army (NRA) or Imperial Japanese Army (IJA) in battle. The dev team studied many historical records about the NRA and the IJA. In the Far East War mod, uniforms, weapons, equipment, camouflage, the camouflage paints on vehicles, and even the rank of each soldier were made as historically accurate as possible.
The following weapons appear in the video game Far East War:
Handguns
Mauser C96
The Policeman of the Chinese conscript squad wields a Mauser C96. The "Medic", "Pistol Team" and some gun crews also have C96 pistols.
Nambu Type 14
The Nambu Type 14 is carried by Japanese officers.
Submachine Guns
M1A1 Thompson
American and British-equipped Chinese units wield M1A1 Thompsons.
M1928/M1928A1 Thompson
The "8RA Veteran Soldier" squad is equipped with both the M1928 and M1928A1 Thompson variants.
Nambu Type 100
Special Japanese Southers troops carry Type 100 submachine guns. The in-game model is the 1944-1945 simplified variant but the earlier Type 100/40 is seen on main menu backgrounds.
SIG Bergmann
Several Chinese squads like the "MP-18 Stormtrooper", "Scout", and "German Armed Infantry squad" use the SIG Bergmann. Some Japanese soldiers use them as well. It is incorrectly referred to as the Bergmann MP18 in the game.
Rifles
Arisaka Type 38
The Arisaka Type 38 is widely used by Japanese forces and some Chinese soldiers. The majority of the Arisakas have attached Type 30 bayonets.
Arisaka Type 99
Some Chinese and Japanese squads are equipped with the Arisaka Type 99. A scoped Type 99 is carried by the Japanese sniper which incorrectly named "Type 97 bolt-action rifle". Some Chinese squads are seen with these Arisaka rifles equipped with box magazines to resemble the Hanyang 88.
Boys Mk. I
The British Boys Antitank Rifle is used by the Chinese "AT-rifle Squad".
Lee-Enfield No. 4 Mk. I
The Chinese "British Armed Infantry Squad" carries Lee-Enfield No. 4 Mk I rifles. A scoped variant is used by the British-equipped Sniper.
M1 Carbine
M1 Carbines are used by American-equipped Chinese units.
Type 24 Zhongzheng
Most Chinese soldiers have Type Zhongzheng Rifles. The sniper uses a scoped variant.
Machine Guns
Bren Mk. I
A Bren gun can be equipped for the Chinese "British Armed Infantry Squad".
Lewis Gun
The British Lewis Gun is carried by the "Sichuan Clique LMG team" which replaces the Type 24 Heavy Machine Gun team.
Nambu Type 11
The Type 11 light machine gun is the standard support weapon of the Japanese army in the game.
Nambu Type 92
The Type 92 heavy machine gun is used by the Imperial Japanese army.
Nambu Type 99
The Japanese "Kwantung Army Infantry" squad carries one Type 99 Light Machine Gun. Southern troops can also be equipped with them. It is called "Type 96 LMG" in the description.
Type 24
The Type 24 Heavy Machine Gun is the standard Chinese machine gun which is also stationed in "Type 25 HMG Nest" defense positions.
