The Quick and the Dead is a 1987 HBO television Western film based on the 1973 Louis L'Amour novel of the same name. The film stars Sam Elliott as Con Vallian, a cowboy who befriends a young family traveling West and proceeds to help them fend off bandits who threaten their lives. The film premiered on the premium service HBO in February of 1987. Not to be confused with the 1995 Sam Raimi-directed Western that starred Sharon Stone.
