Proposal to streamline the TV category
I guess, I made ID of Thark Rifle in John Carter movie
I was thinking, we have a MAIN page for a series and then the individual seasons. Since I think (IMHO) that the Television category listing is really LONG and CUMBERSOME because of all the listings of EACH season, I propose that we only list the MAIN TITLE page of each series and then when the viewer clicks on THAT page, they see all the SEASONS as choices to click on.
At the John Carter movie, most Tharks (Green Martian clan) use Thark Martian rifles. Of course, it was futurised guns, but, after closing inspection of the original movie props, I notice, that's this futusistic rifles were made from Tanegashimas (of course, a modern replicas). For proving this guess, I made a photoshoping compilation of the movie props and modern Tanegashima replica. So, I guess, that's useful to ID the gun as Tanegashma. The serpent for the match and closing powderbox (1), which is almost similar on the Tanegashima and Thark rifle. The pistol-grip buttstock (2) which is also almost similar. Of course, the movie prop is equipped with some part of other guns (percussion hammer) as well as some junks, to look more futuristic, as well, it's sawn in half, but the basing gun is Tanegashima.]]

Airwolf - Season 4
Something I have noticed with classic action films, mostly within the 80's era, is that a lot of muzzle flashes appear more blue than yellow. Did this have something to do with the type of blanks/props that were being used back then, or was this just a result of 1980's cinematography? --Theakker3 (talk) 12:40, 28 March 2023 (UTC)
Instead of listing all the seasons, just put AIRWOLF as a single entry and then you could pick the various seasons from there. All the separate SEASON pages would still be there. It would streamline the list of TV shows way down, due to eliminating all the duplication by listing each and every separate season. == Monsters vs Aliens? ==
:: I agree the TV page is maybe a bit tedious with all the season pages listed but as Tamarin pointed out I don't see any way to do so without removing the categorizations from all those individual season pages, which would be a bit of work and ultimately would - strictly speaking - be incorrect. IDK. I suppose an alternate idea is we could do the seasons as slashed 'subpages' within a main page similar to how HV3R does its weapon categories, but that would entail even more work setting up those subpages and moving the content for each individual season, as well as maybe tweaking existing templates and such. Again.. IDK. StanTheMan (talk) 23:04, 8 January 2022 (EST)
:::Currently we have 2,100 entries in the TV category. It is really so many that it hampers the work with the category? But if so, then in my opinion may be it would be advisable to create subcategories for the seasons (in case there are more than two ot three in the particulcar series, for example). And in order not to mix these categories with Genre, Author, Director and Nation categories, just remove tag TV (as well as tag Film) from abovementioned ones - these tags hardly do any good there. --Greg-Z (talk) 00:49, 9 January 2022 (EST)

:::::Yes, this is also a good option.
:::::I would also like to note that in the case of renaming the pages of seasons or changing the structure to slashed 'subpages', as suggested above, we will get an incredibly colossal amount of work to change the links on the pages of guns and actors - hardly a pleasant prospect. Simple moving of the pages to special categories in one or another way wouldn't lead to such disaster.--Greg-Z (talk) 01:22, 10 January 2022 (EST)

I am new here, and I have not seen any guidelines about whether it's okay to cite a firearm in a movie listing without an associated screen grab. :First off, welcome aboard. As for your question, if it's a pre-existing page, then pointing out a specific gun that doesn't already have a screencap is fine, as long as you're specific about when and where it appears (though having a screencap is always preferable). If it's for a page that doesn't exist yet, we'd prefer not - we have an excess of pages without screencaps as-is. On IMFDB, there seems to be an informal agreement that mobile games are not notable enough to warrant documentation on this website; there are no mobile game pages on this website, and users only document mobile game firearms via their own sandbox pages as personal projects. However, officially (as documented on the Rules, Standards and Principles page), there are no rules against mobile game pages; mobile games are professionally distributed video games, and the one rule where mobile apps are mentioned only states that user-made mobile apps are not allowed, the same as other user-made media.
Identifying revolver
So I would like to ask, what is actually stopping us from making pages on mobile games like Girls' Frontline and Call of Duty: Mobile? Is it just an informal agreement due to habits? If it is a concern about shovelware, I would like to argue that PC game markets are filled with shovelware too, and the average wiki editor's ability to reasonably judge a game's quality and notability should be enough to filter out the non-notable shovelware. --Wuzh (talk) 13:48, 4 April 2022 (EDT)

: Not really a detailed enough shot to tell much. Appears to be a mid-size, .38 or therabouts. Ejector rod looks rather long which makes me think it has a socket, which would make it a S&W. :As I've said before, this whole "no mobile games allowed" thing is archaic. Mobile games are now as popular as any other entertainment and have graphical fidelity on par with at least the PS3 generation. I suppose 10 years ago someone decided that mobile games are not relevant and detailed enough to be allowed but that is clearly not the case anymore. These obsolete notions should be reevaluated and mobile games should be allowed considering that there are already perfectly detailed sandbox articles that can serve as a blueprint. --Nanomat (talk) 22:18, 4 April 2022 (EDT)

While I grant there is at this stage perhaps some basis for a reevaluation of that rule, not seeing where there's wiggle room about it at present since by plain text they just aren't allowed. == A new template for Early Access games? ==
Currently games like Ready or Not, and Arma Reforger (but not Hot Dogs, Horseshoes & Hand Grenades oddly enough) use the "Upcoming" template, which identifies them as "unrelased" despite having some form of release. Obviously, this is less than desirable. Can we make a new template for cases like this? Wording like "While officially released in some form, this video game is actively receiving new content via patches. This page may not yet reflect new additions, and current information is subject to change." should be applicable to games in Early Access, pages based on Open Beta releases, those that have had demos released, and released (mostly multiplayer focused) games that get new content (including firearms) with some regularity. For the picture, some kind of (unit) patch for a play on (software) patch, or gen 1 Glock to a more modern Glock. -VladVladson (talk) 21:00, 6 July 2022 (EDT)

Issues with IMFDB Accounts Reported by Multiple Users
To IMFDB staff members:
I was recently contacted by a user on Discord named Killerwolf, who stated that they were the ones who applied for the account User:Killerwolf in 2017. They stated that after applying for the IMFDB account, and after the account was approved by IMFDB, they never received a confirmation email from IMFDB. When they tried to use their username to reset their password, they did not receive a password change email either. As such, despite having an approved account on IMFDB, they cannot log into their account, and is unable to contribute to IMFDB.
In my research surrounding this issue, I came across the post "Regarding a user" posted by User:Ultimate94ninja on the talk page of IMFDB staff Bunni. They reported a scenario similar to Killerwolf's situation: a user applied for an account, the account was created, but they never received a confirmation email, and could not reset their password, and like Killerwolf, had to contact an IMFDB user from off site to forward their issues to the IMFDB staff. It is clear then that Killerwolf's situation is not a one-off occurrence; it is possible that multiple users who wanted to contribute to IMFDB, and requested for accounts to do so, could not contribute to IMFDB in the end, so because their accounts are broken during their creation and they cannot log in to them.
Given these similar reports of "missing confirmation email" during the account creation process, I would like to ask several questions regarding account creation on IMFDB to hopefully resolve the issues for these IMFDB users.
#What are the specific procedures behind account creation on IMFDB?
#What is making Killerwolf and others unable to confirm their accounts and change their passwords?
#What can we do to resolve their issues?

I've purchased an account with a new email provider and will try to set that up this weekend; but I think it's our domain, not our email hosting. --bunni (talk) 20:52, 27 July 2022 (EDT)

Pistol ID?
I'm screencapping the Maggie Q action film The Protege (my first time screencapping Blu-ray) and came across a pistol I don't recognize, and ideas? First thought was a Caracal, but is has a hammer. A quick scroll through the Pistol category didn't turn up any possibles I saw. It is a glitch because of the update or is the forum no more? --Jcordell (talk) 06:16, 4 September 2022 (UTC)

No more special characters in titles - this is a disaster
A lot of French, German, Czech, Romanian etc. titles that contain special characters, as well as titles with quotation marks, are now broken. It's just a nightmare. Now do we have to rename all such pages manually and edit all links to them? --Greg-Z (talk) 06:53, 4 September 2022 (UTC)
:It's not clear to me yet. The wiki software complained about these characters after the update, and I think think they're no longer allowed on Wikipedia, but User:Wuzh was able to move a Broken page back with the umlaut in the title: Brügger & Thomet. Either way I don't think we should be moving these by hand, there's 1600 broken pages, I will write a script to do the move. --bunni (talk) 07:10, 4 September 2022 (UTC)

Two actors with the same name
I am currently working on the Spiral page and will soon create a page for Thomas Mitchell. However, when I added him into the infobox, I found an already existing page for a long-dead actor with the same name (Thomas Mitchell). Can you advise anything in this case? Maybe I should add (I), (II), etc. tags as in IMDB? Pustelga7 (talk) 23:03, 10 November 2022 (UTC)
:Do you have any way of figuring out their middle names? If so, I'd figure that'd be the best move. Pyr0m4n14c (talk) 00:20, 11 November 2022 (UTC)
::The established precedent is add the Roman numerals in brackets. See Robert_Taylor_(II) and Robert Taylor. --Funkychinaman (talk) 02:58, 11 November 2022 (UTC)
:::Thank you for your answers. I couldn't find the actor's middle name anywhere, so I'll use the Roman numerals in brackets. Pustelga7 (talk) 11:39, 11 November 2022 (UTC)
::::Using the middle name wouldn't be acceptable since we specify using the actor's name as it appears in IMDB. That's because actor names are partly dictated by union rules. For example, Michael J. Fox couldn't use "Michael Fox" because there already was an actor named Michael Fox, and he added the middle initial J not in reference to his middle name (Andrew), but as a tribute to actor Michael J. Pollard. --Funkychinaman (talk) 14:21, 11 November 2022 (UTC)
Dark mode?
Question regarding preferences: will there be an option for a "dark mode" (turn the page from white to dark gray or black) in IMFDB? It'll make it easier on the eyes, especially at night.--MJ79 (talk) 15:37, 6 December 2022 (UTC)

I guess, I made ID of Thark Rifle in John Carter movie
At the John Carter movie, most Tharks (Green Martian clan) use Thark Martian rifles. Of course, it was futurised guns, but, after closing inspection of the original movie props, I notice, that's this futusistic rifles were made from Tanegashimas (of course, a modern replicas). For proving this guess, I made a photoshoping compilation of the movie props and modern Tanegashima replica. So, I guess, that's useful to ID the gun as Tanegashma. Smiling Friends page?
The western animation series Smiling Friends has quite a few realistically-drawn firearms which I documented on my sandbox here. I would just like to know if the show qualifies for a page on this site. --Dnkakusei (talk) 13:47, 6 February 2023 (UTC)

Blue Muzzle Flashes
Something I have noticed with classic action films, mostly within the 80's era, is that a lot of muzzle flashes appear more blue than yellow. Did this have something to do with the type of blanks/props that were being used back then, or was this just a result of 1980's cinematography? --Theakker3 (talk) 12:40, 28 March 2023 (UTC)
Monsters vs Aliens?
Should we add a page about Monsters vs Aliens, the movie has some detailed guns like the M4 Carbine
Prodigal Son - Season 2, Unknown semi-auto pistol
I believe have a positive ID on the "unknown" semi-auto pistol listed for Prodigal Son - Season 2.
I requested an account specifically to help with this ID but I don't understand how to correctly add this info
If someone could vet this and add it, I'd appreciate it!
Prodigal Son - S02E10, "Exit Strategy". At approx 34m:30s, Felix (spoiler: Clayton Fielder's twin) climbs a staircase while brandishing, then racking, a silver-tone semi-auto I identify as a TriStar P-120 (CZ75 clone). It's later seen several times from virtually every conceivable angle starting around 38:10.
I checked it and I think you're right, so I did make all the necessary changes. By the way, don't forget to put your nickname and time in all discussions using 4 "~" at the end of each post. Pustelga7 (talk) 15:30, 4 June 2023 (UTC)

Stunt/action choreography for a director's page
On the page for stunt choreographer and two-time film director Kensuke Sonomura, I've added a list of films and games that he contributed stunt direction and choreography to. I'm planning on fully adding these productions to his category, but I was told to ask an admin first because stunt coordination is a pretty niche credit, however I believe that these productions should be added to his category as stunt and action sequences are vital and important parts of these films and games. Is it safe to add the pages? --Dnkakusei (talk) 12:50, 14 November 2023 (UTC)
Firearm citations without screen grabs?
I am new here, and I have not seen any guidelines about whether it's okay to cite a firearm in a movie listing without an associated screen grab. Is it better to have a weapon identified, even without a photo? ... or is it really better to make sure that each citation includes corresponding screen grabs? --226X5-9-TAC (talk) 23:02, 15 December 2023 (UTC).
First off, welcome aboard. Pyr0m4n14c (talk) 23:43, 15 December 2023 (UTC)
Identifying revolver
What type of revolver is this? Film is from 1938. Theakker3 (talk) 17:55, 22 December 2023 (UTC)
Not really a detailed enough shot to tell much. Appears to be a mid-size, .38 or therabouts. Ejector rod looks rather long which makes me think it has a socket, which would make it a S&W. If so, likely a Military & Police model. StanTheMan (talk) 17:30, 23 December 2023 (UTC)
NCIS Sydney
Should I wait until the episode/s airing in Australia in the last few weeks this month are accessible in Canada/US next month (January 2024) before screencapping, even though the show's backed by CBS and Paramount Plus? Ominae (talk) 10:05, 23 December 2023 (UTC)
