Actual Winchester Model 1876 used by Steve McQueen during the filming of the movie Tom Horn. Caliber is 45-75 WCF. Serial number is #22700 (Mfd.1882). Photo and information from Long Mountain Outfitters.

Introduced by Winchester in 1876, the Winchester Model 1876 is a larger, stronger version of the Winchester Model 1873, designed to use higher-power centerfire rifle cartridges. It was available in the following calibers: 40-60 WCF, 45-60 WCF, 45-75 WCF, 50-95 Express. It was manufactured in four different variations: carbine, musket, sporting rifle, and express rifle. It was manufactured and sold from 1876 to 1897. Approximately 64,000 were manufactured. This model is often referred to as the "Centennial Model" to coincide with the celebration of the American Centennial Exposition, which celebrated the 100th anniversary of the signing of the American Declaration of Independence.

The Model 1876 in .45-75 was carried by Canada's North-West Mounted Police (now the Royal Canadian Mounted Police - Canadian Mounties) for many years. With the introduction of the John Browning-designed Winchester Model 1886, the Centennial was outmoded. However, Winchester continued to manufacture it for another eleven years.

The Winchester Model 1876 and variants can be seen in the following films, television series, video games, and anime used by the following actors:
