The Rare Breed is a 1966 comedy Western film directed by Andrew V. McLaglen and starring James Stewart, Maureen O'Hara and Brian Keith. Martha Evans (O'Hara), the widow of a British cattle breeder, brings a prized bull of the Hereford breed to the United States, planning to introduce the breed on the American West. The bull is purchased by Texas rancher Alexander Bowen (Keith), and wrangler Sam Burnett (Stewart) is hired to transport the bull to Bowen's ranch. Martha and her daughter Hilary plan to accompany Burnett on the trip.
The following weapons were used in the film The Rare Breed:
Revolvers
Single Action Army
Sam Burnett (James Stewart), Deke Simons (Jack Elam), Jamie Bowen (Don Galloway), Alexander Bowen (Brian Keith) and Ed Mabry (Harry Carey Jr.) carry Single Action Army revolvers, mostly "Artillery" model.
Rifles
Winchester Model 1892 Saddle Ring Carbine
When Deke Simons (Jack Elam) confronts his companion Ed Mabry, he holds a Winchester Model 1892 Saddle Ring Carbine, anachronistic for 1884 when the plot is set. Later Simons uses a Winchester 1892 rifle instead of the carbine, but when his rifle falls in hands of Sam Burnett (James Stewart), it switches back to a carbine. Jamie Bowen (Don Galloway) and Alexander Bowen (Brian Keith) are also seen with 1892 carbines.
Winchester Model 1892 Rifle
When Deke Simons (Jack Elam) threatens Martha and Hilary Evans, he is armed with a Winchester Model 1892 Rifle instead of previously seen carbine. During the ensuing fight between Simons and Sam Burnett (James Stewart), Martha Evans (Maureen O'Hara) picks up the rifle, and then she hands it to Sam. Jamie Bowen's (Don Galloway) 1892 carbine switches to a 1892 rifle in one scene.
Unidentified rifles
A number of rifles (or a mix of rifles and shotguns) is seen in Alexander Bowen's gun rack.
