L'Intervention (The Intervention, English title: 15 Minutes of War) is a 2019 French action movie directed by Fred Grivois. The movie is directly inspired by the real-life rescue of French hostages by members of the French Foreign Legion and, at the time, new, small, and relatively unknown French counterterrorist unit GIGN outside of the village of Loyada, Djibouti in 1976.
February, 1976. Militants belonging to the pan-Somali guerilla movement Front de Libération de la Côte des Somalis (FLCS) hijack a bus carrying 31 children of French servicemen deployed to the area. In response, France executes a joint mission between the French Foreign Legion and GIGN, who initiate a daring rescue which begins with a simultaneous sniper shot.
The following weapons were used in the film L'Intervention:
Pistols and Revolvers
Manurhin MR-73
French forces, including GIGN members, use the famous Manurhin MR-73.
Captain Gerval (Alban Lenoir) uses a sport version with 5.25 barrel.
MAC Mle 1950
The leader of the terrorists (Kevin Layne) uses a MAC Mle 1950 to threaten the teacher and kill a French Gendarme. Later, Jane (Olga Kurylenko) takes the pistol from the dead terrorist to defend the children. Some uniformed French Gendarmes and soldiers carry the pistol as well.
Luger P08
Gendarme Campère (Michael Abiteboul) uses a Luger P08 Artillery akimbo with his MR-73.
Colt M1911
A Somalian soldier lays an M1911 on a table when French forces attempt to negotiate with the terrorists.
Rifles
MAS FR F1
The GIGN snipers use the MAS FR F1 as their primary weapon to execute a very efficient coordinated shot. The scopes used seem to be civilian-grade models.
AK-47
AK-47s are used by Somalian troops and terrorists.
AKM
The AKM is also used by some of the hijackers and Somalian forces.
Norinco Type 56-1
At least one hijacker is armed with a Norinco Type 56-1.
Zastava M70AB2
A Somalian soldier is seen with a Zastava M70AB2, distinguished from other folding-stock AK models by the three vent holes in the handguard.
MAS-49/56
CIA observer Shafer (Ben Cura) joins the GIGN team when they realize they are down a man for the coordinated sniper shot. Captain Gerval gives him a MAS-49/56 for use during the mission.
Modèle 1892 Artillery Carbine
The Somalian troops use a large variety of rifles, including the Berthier Mle 1892 Artillery Carbine.
Zastava M48 Mauser
At least one of the Somalian soldiers is armed with an M48 Yugoslavian Mauser.
Shotguns
12 Gauge Double Barreled Shotgun
At least one Somalian soldier is seen with an old 12 Gauge Double Barreled Shotgun.
Submachine Guns
MAT-49
French Army soldiers and Legionnaires carry the MAT-49. They are seen only briefly and never fired.
Machine Guns
MG42
Somalian troops use an MG42 against the sniper team.
Grenades
OF 37
In the last moment of the gunfight, Somalian soldiers throw OF 37 hand grenades, which are thrown back by the Gendarmes and Jane (Olga Kurylenko).
