Cold War (Chinese Title: 寒戰) is a 2012 Hong Kong police thriller directed by Sunny Luk and Longman Leung. After five HKPF officers are taken hostage by a mysterious gang of kidnappers during a routine patrol, rival deputy police commissioners Sean Lau (Aaron Kwok) and Waise Lee (Tony Leung Ka Fai) fight to take control of the rescue operation, codenamed "COLD WAR". While attempting to free the hostages, Lau and Lee are unwittingly drawn into a larger, more sinister conspiracy within the Hong Kong Police Force.
The following weapons were used in the film Cold War:
Pistols
SIG-Sauer P250 Compact
The SIG-Sauer P250 Compact is the primary firearm used by senior HKPF officers throughout the film. Deputy Commissioner Sean Lau (Aaron Kwok) and Senior Superintendent Vincent Tsui (Chin Kar-Lok) are seen using their P250s during the highway ambush. Deputy Commissioner Waise Lee (Tony Leung Ka Fai) is seen handing his weapon to his son near the ending. Senior Superintendents Albert Kwong (Gordon Lam Ka-tung) is also seen with the pistol. Head kidnapper and ex-cop Chan Bun (Byron Mann) also uses one in a later scene.
Note: In real life, the SIG-Sauer P250 Compact (DCc) is the standard sidearm of HKPF officers in the criminal investigation units, having replaced the Colt Detective Special revolver.
SIG-Sauer P228
A kidnapper is briefly seen with a SIG-Sauer P228 while moving the hostages to another location.
Glock 17
Glock 17 pistols with tactical lights are used by Special Duties Unit (SDU) officers when they storm a ship looking for the hostages and later while confronting the kidnappers in an office tower.
In reality, the Glock 17 pistols in the force were equipped with an Insight M3 Tactical Illuminator since the 1990s. This setting was used by several units in the force including the Special Duties Unit (SDU), Airport Security Unit (ASU) and the Marine Police (MP).
Revolvers
Smith & Wesson Model 10
Uniformed HKPF officers use Smith & Wesson Model 10 revolvers as their standard issue sidearm.
Shotguns
Remington 870
A Remington 870 shotgun with a tactical light is used by Chan Bun when he ambushes Deputy Commissioner Lau on a highway.
Submachine Guns
Heckler & Koch MP5A2
A HKPF officer wields a Heckler & Koch MP5A2 while searching a suspicious vehicle.
Heckler & Koch MP5A3
SDU officers are mostly armed with Heckler & Koch MP5A3 submachine guns with Surefire dedicated weaponlights. A kidnapper also uses one in the final shootout after retrieving it from a fallen SDU officer.
Rifles
M4A1 Carbine
Some of the SDU operators, most notably Commander Michael Shek (Andy On), use M4A1 carbines. The M4A1s are all equipped with foregrips, tactical lights, Magpul CTR buttstocks and Aimpoint red dot sights.
Note: In reality, the SDU are equipped with Knight's Armament SR-16 carbines. The SR16s are all equipped with a KAC Foregrip, Surefire M962V Tactical Light, old style M4 buttstocks and Aimpoint ML2 red dot sights.
AKS-47
The kidnappers use an AKS-47 rifle to threaten the hostages, and later while ambushing Deputy Commissioner Lau on the highway.
Accuracy International Arctic Warfare
SDU snipers use an Accuracy International Arctic Warfare sniper rifle to cover the assault teams when they raid a ship looking for the hostages.
Other
Gas Launcher
The kidnappers use a launcher to fire a smoke grenade into a police van.
Fireworks
The kidnappers use a cache of high-grade fireworks as improvised rocket launchers to fend off Michael's SDU team during the climatic gun battle. In real life, fireworks are illegal to possess without a permit from the government.
