For several years prior to being cast in the Netflix series Stranger Things he worked steadily in movies (Quantum of Solace, Brokeback Mountain, State of Play), television, commercials and theater. His star rose to mainstream prominence when he took the role of Hawkins City Police Chief Jim Hopper in Stranger Things.
