The Killing Fields is a 1984 British war drama directed by Roland Joffe and based on actual events. Sam Waterston stars as Sydney Schanberg, a New York Times journalist who along with his fellow colleague Dith Pran (Haing S. Ngor) were witnesses to the rise of the Khmer Rouge in Cambodia in the 1970s. Haing S. Ngor (who himself also endured the real life Killing Fields of Cambodia) would receive the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his portrayal of Pran in the film.
The following weapons were used in the film The Killing Fields:
Colt M1911A1
A Cambodian FANK soldier is seen cleaning a Colt M1911A1 with a rag as he converses with Dith Pran (Haing S. Ngor). Sydney Schanberg (Sam Waterston) is also seen being threatened by a Khmer Rouge soldier with an M1911A1 as well.
AK-47
Many of Khmer Rouge soldiers are seen carrying AK-47 assault rifles, especially the Chinese Norinco Type 56 model.
M16A1
American troops as well as Cambodian FANK soldiers are seen carrying M16A1 rifles. Some Khmer Rouge soldiers also carry this weapon.
M60
When the FANK soldier cleans his M1911A1 pistol, an M60 machine gun is seen in the foreground.
M60D
The M60D is used by doorgunners on UH-1 Huey helicopters during the evacuation of the embassy.
Browning M2HB
A Browning M2HB is mounted on an M113 Armored Personnel Carrier commandeered by Khmer Rouge troops.
M79 grenade launcher
The M79 grenade launcher is carried by several Khmer Rouge soldiers.
B-40 RPG
The B-40 RPG, a Vietnamese copy of the RPG-2, is seen in the hands of Khmer Rouge soldiers as well in the Khmer Rouge re-education camp.
