Donald Moffat (1930–2018) was a character actor who, though born in Plymouth, England, had a long and successful career working in the United States. He appeared on stage, film and television during the sixty plus years that he worked as an actor. Among his notable roles included the station commander Garry in The Thing (1982), as Vice President Lyndon Johnson in 1983's The Right Stuff as well as the President of the United States in 1994's Clear and Present Danger.
