Spitfire Submachine Gun (a modified version of the carbine with a shortened barrel and converted to full-automatic) - .45 ACP

The Spitfire Carbine is an American semi-automatic carbine chambered in .45 ACP which is aesthetically based on the Thompson Submachine Gun which has lead to it being referred to as the "Poor Man's Thompson". It was originally manufactured in Phoenix, Arizona in the 1960s with a 16" barrel although some have had the barrel shortened, along with being converted (at the time legally) to full-automatic fire.

Due to the low cost in comparison to a genuine Thompson, a large number of theses weapons were exported to Central America, where they were even used by the Mexican police for a time. Due to the ease with which this weapon can be converted to full automatic the unmodified carbine is considered a machine gun by the ATF and, since none were originally registered as machine guns, they cannot be legally owned or sold in the US. However, the carbines can be modified by welding over certain bolts to prevent full disassembly (and hence modification) to render them legal.

The Spitfire Carbine and variants can be seen in the following films, television series, video games, and anime used by the following actors:
