The Saxon M1873 Army revolver (Sachsen Reichsrevolver M1873) is a service revolver, designed and put into service in the Kingdom of Saxony. It is based on the Smith & Wesson Model 2 revolver and became the first German revolver to use a metallic cartridge. The revolver was manufactured in 1873 to 1878 by F Langenhahn in Zella-Mehlis in two models: the M1873 and slightly improved M1874. In the 1880s, it was replaced by the Reichsrevolver M1879, the standard sidearm of the Imperial German Army. The obsolete M1873 revolvers were converted from rimfire to center fire and sold on the civilian market.
