8 Million Ways to Die is a 1986 crime thriller which was the final feature film directed by Hal Ashby (The Last Detail). The film stars Jeff Bridges as Matthew "Matt" Scudder, an LA Sheriff's Department Deputy whose career and family life are in shambles due to his alcohol addiction and a tragic shooting. He then finds himself unknowingly involved in an underground drug and prostitution ring. The screenplay was co-written by several well-known writers, including Oliver Stone and Robert Towne (Chinatown, Tequila Sunrise, The Yakuza). The production experienced controversy with Stone and Towne arguing with the producers. Much of the dialogue was improvised on set and not scripted. Matthew Scudder is the main character of a series of Block's novels, which includes A Walk Among the Tombstones, that was later turned into a 2014 crime thriller directed by Scott Frank (Godless) and stars Liam Neeson as the character. Unlike the novels and the Liam Neeson production 8 Million Ways to Die is set in Los Angeles instead of New York City. The move was filmed from August - November 1985 with a few re-shoots directed by John D. Hancock (Weeds (1987), Let's Scare Jessica to Death, Baby Blue Marine)
The following weapons were used in the film 8 Million Ways to Die:
Revolvers
Smith & Wesson Model 66

Charter Arms Undercover
Scudder's backup weapon is a snub nose revolver that appears to be a Charter Arms Undercover. This particular gun lacks a front sight and it has been mag-na-ported. The same or very similar revolver without front sight can be seen in Point Break.
