The cast also includes Jon Bernthal and Jeffrey Donovan. A sequel, Sicario: Day of the Soldado, which also was written by Sheridan and with Josh Brolin, Benicio del Toro, and Jeffrey Donovan returning to reprise their roles, was released in June of 2018 by Sony and Columbia Pictures.

Mexican Federal Police officers, Border Patrol Officers, and cartel members carry M4A1s with detachable carrying handle rear iron sights and older A2 rounded handguards. At least two Phoenix SWAT officer wield M4A1s with black Magpul MOE furniture and ACOG scopes in the first minutes of the film and are carried as well by Delta Force commandos, most notably by the team leader (Dylan Kenin) during the night raid to the tunnels in conjunction with the standard M4A1. Its possible these may be airsoft replicas as well like the G&P M4 MOE CQBR but these rifles feature 14.5 in barrels.

A similar rifle is also seen in Silvio's (Maximiliano Hernández) home.
