The M4s are XM177E1s
I don't think that M4 is actually an M4. That part of the movie takes place in the sixties, right? Then it's most likely somekind of CAR-15, they look like XM177E1s It could be M4s because the director or the armorer didn't know that the M4 didn't exist in the sixties.
