:Thank you for the reply, and sorry I misjudged you (to be honest, I didn't notice the discussion, so I did think you were some foolish n00b who was changing things without consulting admins). I thought that I was simply upholding a decision that the rest of the staff had agreed to a long time ago. At the very least, I guess we should discuss the matter again in the topic - and clearly, the forum's not such a good place, since we have too many problems with spammers. And Happy Holidays to you, too. -[[User:MT2008|MT2008]] 10:01, 24 December 2011 (CST)

::Looks good. I'm a mod here. I really like the Colt page. The S&W page is going to be an intensive piece of labor for you. I agree with bunni. We need a category for these new pages. --[[User:Jcordell|Jcordell]] 16:30, 27 December 2011 (CST)
<nowiki>{{ActorF}}</nowiki> = <nowiki>[[Category:Actor]] and [[Category:Actor Female]]</nowiki>

I've been collecting S&W revolvers for several years. S&W has always been a very organized company with outstanding records. Better organized company in so many aspects. In the past couple of years I've gotten into Colt revolvers and I've learned that getting information about the various Colt handguns is very challenging. For most of it's history Colt was rather scatter-shot in it's approach. For example they would have different models use the same serial number range (Official Police and .38 spl Officer Model Target pre-WWII), but the Pre-WWII Officer Model Target .22LR had it's own serial numbers. Why? Who knows? Other models (such as the Theur derringer) would be made for decades and Colt has little to no written records about the models. For example the serial numbers will not tell you what year an individual derringer was made. And then you have the Official Police model and it's variants. Over 700,000 made over a seventy year period. Very challenging. I like the colt double action revolvers, but I can see why colt has almost gone out of business and S&W is still prospering. Hopefully Colt's fairly new management can fix things. --[[User:Jcordell|Jcordell]] 17:37, 27 December 2011 (CST)

The gun manufacturers template is cool except when you get into clones like the M16 series, 1911 Pistols, Colt SAA Revolvers and others. Not sure how to worked that problem as it is a large one.--[[User:Phoenixent|Steve]]

I think these pages are turning out well, good job. One modification that I would suggest though (for both the pages and the template) is reversing the order of the categories. I think the "Standard" guns should really go first because, as the name implies, they are the standard gun and are also probably the most common. I would put the order as "Standard", "Long", "Compact", "Subcompact". Also, I'm not sure about how the Colt variants are categorised on the template. I think they should just be split on size like the other manufacturers for a few reasons. First, it would then be a standard and look better. Secondly, the modern thing is kind of screwed up, with the 80 Combat Elite being from the same time as the regular series 80, and the National Match going back to the Series 70 guns. Also the Military/Governemnt differentiation seems a bit pointless to me, as I would imaging that most of the guns that actually appear in media are based on the civillian guns and the majority of the M1911A1 ID's are actually wrong. To be honest, I think there is a case that the M1919A1, Government and Series 70 sections could probably be merged, as they are the same gun with no visible external differences unless you get a really good look at the markings.  --[[User:Commando552|commando552]] 16:11, 16 June 2012 (CDT)

== Re:AK ==
I think he was on the right track changing this (but went abut it the wrong way), as the current image we have for the Model 1 is not a Model 1. If you look at the one in the history (which is a Model 1 first issue) you can see that there are quite a few differences. I'll sort it out with some better pictures of the first, second and third issues for reference to clear it up.  --[[User:Commando552|commando552]] 10:43, 24 August 2012 (CDT)

:So how you want to do this template? Include only true AK-pattern guns (like on wikipedia), or include guns like the VSS too, which only look like AK variants, but in reality have nothing to do with that design? --[[User:Bozitojugg3rn4ut|bozitojugg3rn4ut]] 14:06, 26 June 2012 (CDT)

I would separate them along similar lines as the AK gallers, with "Soviet manufactured Kalashnikov pattern firearms" "Foreign manufactured Kalashnikov pattern firearms" "Firearms derived from the Kalashnikov" and "Firearms visually resembling the Kalashnikov". First section would be the russian weapons, separated into assault rifles, carbines, machine guns and sniper rifles. Then next section would be split up by country. Not sure whether to split each section by weapon type or not, would need to play it by ear depending on how many you were ending up with. If not splitting by type, could put the weapon type in brackets after the name. It gets a bit tricky when you get into AK derived, and visually resembling the AK as there can be a fine line. For example, the I would put the SVD in the visually similar, as it shares no parts with the AK and has a different operating system. However the visually similar FPK/PSL is derived from the RPK, so would go in the AK derivatives section. Stuff like the Valmet (and hence the Galil and Vektor rifles) would go in the derivatives section, as although not of the AK pattern they are a modification to the design. But that's just my opinion on how it should be broken down. --[[User:Commando552|commando552]] 15:23, 26 June 2012 (CDT)

Yes, it did, but I think it sort of sets a bad precedent for some new user to start a page with one line as his first edit and have the rest of us build it unto a full page. (It was literally one line.) But oh well, what's done is done. As for the templates, I have to admit, I'm not sure I know what I'm doing with them. I added Barry Nelson to the James Bond template over the weekend, but that took a lot of copying and pasting and trial and error. --[[User:Funkychinaman|Funkychinaman]] 13:32, 26 June 2012 (CDT)

Thanks for the welcome message.  I will do my best to add great content and improve this site.

Hi there, I was the creator of the Nosferatu: The Wrath of Malachi page. I noticed that you recently nuked it and left a note saying "Creator refuses to finish . . . " I haven't abandoned the IMFDB by any means, but have been busy with real life thus far. Maybe you could tell me what specifically was wrong with it? Last I worked on the page, it was essentially complete by the IMFDB standards of the time. Have they drastically changed in the meantime? --[[User:Mazryonh|Mazryonh]] 01:13, 28 June 2012 (CDT)

:Sure, if you tell me what's missing. I do not currently have access to the game disc right now, but at last count the page was, in my view, essentially finished--all the ingame weapons had both 3rd-person and 1st Person views, and had (where possible) references to the real-life weapons they were based on. What's missing from the page according to the IMFDB standards now? --[[User:Mazryonh|Mazryonh]] 03:39, 28 June 2012 (CDT)

"Not getting pissed?" Thankfully, not everyone is subject to the [http://users.rider.edu/~suler/psycyber/disinhibit.html online disinhibition effect]. Courtesy and civility cost absolutely nothing to produce, have, or give, so why not give generously until you have good reason to do otherwise? And as for the weapons, what were you expecting, a [[Van_Helsing#Gas_Operated_Automatic_Crossbow|stake launcher]]? The game is (as I outlined in the wiki entry's introduction) an out-and-out homage to the silent film ''Nosferatu'', and like its parent novel ''Dracula,'' the game's weaponry is based around those used by old-fashioned vampire hunters before they became modern pop culture icons (like [[Constantine]], [[Van Helsing]], and [[Hellsing]]). The 4 firearms already listed are the only ones in the game, and you can confirm this by checking out [http://www.gamefaqs.com/pc/917976-nosferatu-the-wrath-of-malachi/faqs an FAQ] for the game or [http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL2AB7C05E018CC1E6&feature=plcp a video walkthrough]. The rest of the ingame weapons are religious paraphernalia or melee weaponry, such as a Crucifix, a totally overpowered Holy Water Chalice (which you can refill by blessing a tub of water with your Crucifix), a Cane Sword, and your character's own two fists. Call it the limitations of a budget title if you want, but I think this helps to maintain the authenticity of the "old-fashioned" nature of the title, right down to the old-fashioned film grain effect and "film scratches" you can sometimes see.
I didn't think the system would allow a Gunmaster45 and a GunMaster45. It's not the same person, is it? If not, is it a good idea to allow a new user a name so close to an admin? --[[User:Funkychinaman|Funkychinaman]] ([[User talk:Funkychinaman|talk]]) 16:51, 2 November 2012 (EDT)

As for putting photos of the actual guns in this wiki entry, there is a small problem with that. While there is an entry for generic [[Flintlock Pistol]]s I could select a photo from, there is no equivalent entry for generic Flintlock Muskets, and the ingame one doesn't look like any of those musket entries already on the site. Could a disambiguation page that listed all the musket variants be created? Is there anything else on the laundry list of things that need to be done for this game's wiki page?

Why was the ''[[They Walk]]'' page deleted? It definitely had pictures as I identified and made a page for the [[Chiappa Double Eagle Derringer]] based on the markings on the gun. It had identifiable guns listed and at least some pictures (can't remember anything about the page, just that I ID'd that gun), so I would have though an "Incomplete" tag would be more suitable. ==Questioning my change==
(edit) sorry, I was fixing a change I was going to make.  The original maker identified the gun as a '''Stainless''' Model 36.  Since there is no Stainless 36, I changed it to a Model 60 (which would be the correct identifier for that model if made in SS).  You should bring up your challenge to them, not me. :D  As to what I as doing - I recently uploaded a correct S&W model 36 nickel plated 1st gen photo.  The photo I had uploaded previously was mislabeled as a stainless Model 36.  It was actually a photo of a Satin Stainless Model 60.  At the time I took the first old photo, the owner (not me) quipped that it was a Stainless Model 60.  I was not as educated about S&W model nomenclature as I am now, so I loaded the pic as such.  But what he meant (and what I later learned myself) that he was merely describing the "Model 60" as "the stainless Model 36".  Anyway, enough backstory about the pics, but that is why I'm fixing pages which used the Model 60 pic as a 'nickel' Model 36.  And any page that utilizes the Model 60 description, I either put in a correct pic of a Model 60 or did minor grammar or spelling changes.  I left the gun IDs to the creators of the pages. I am not able to get my hand on an American DVD release of Hell on Wheels (as per the IMFDB regulations) but I do have a paid netflix account from which I was able to pull screenshots for the firearms I wish to add for the page (namely the Winchester Model 1866, the Henry Model 1860 and Elam`s "Arkansas Toothpick"). Sorry to disturb you for such a minor problem but I need some technical help. When I'm trying to to create a hyperlink for a name or title that has letters with diacritical signs I encounter the following problem:

A database query syntax error has occurred. This may indicate a bug in the software. The last attempted database query was:

from within function "LinkHolderArray::replaceInternal". Database returned error "1271: Illegal mix of collations for operation ' IN ' (192.168.130.4)".

It happens not with all such letters. For example, '''š''' can be used correctly, but using '''ć''' (in the name of Serbian actor) or '''ă''' (in the title of Romanian movie) results in error. It happens only when using such letters in hyperlinks. In common text they can be used without any problem. I have already posted a topic about this problem on IMFDB forum but had no answer.

S&W Model 1

I think he was on the right track changing this (but went abut it the wrong way), as the current image we have for the Model 1 is not a Model 1. If you look at the one in the history (which is a Model 1 first issue) you can see that there are quite a few differences. I'll sort it out with some better pictures of the first, second and third issues for reference to clear it up. --commando552 10:43, 24 August 2012 (CDT)

Apology accepted. I saw the mistake and just fixed it asap with the best S&W Model 1 pic I could find. You were right, I should have brought it up with one of the admins instead of just fixing it. --charterarmsoffduty 10:33, 25 August 2012 (CDT)

Deleting screenshots

Is there any way to delete a screenshot without actually have to access the page? A screenshot I've uploaded for the film The Rundown now causes the page to not load and I would like to delete that jpg and a few others. Here are the filenames: File:Rund.jpg File:Rundown.jpg File:Therundown.jpg

If you try to click on this files, you will be taken to a blank page with the following warning:

Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 67108864 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 11908 bytes) in /home/imfdb/public_html/w/includes/media/Bitmap.php on line 213

If there's anything you can do, please help. Thanks --Ben41 23:01, 3 September 2012 (CDT)

Questioning my change

(edit) sorry, I was fixing a change I was going to make. The original maker identified the gun as a Stainless Model 36. I've been following the Anime and guns articles and would like to make my own contributions since I'm a die hard anime fan, specifically of the kinds with guns in them. Excalibur01 (talk) 13:13, 18 July 2013 (EDT)

IMFDB upgrade: dispatch schedule products

Hi Zackmann, just a question about the IMFDB upgrade fund-raising project that came up in May. I ordered a few small items and I was just curious when I could expect them. I know there's probably a zillion things on your mind, but I would appreciate if you could give me a small update. By the way, I honestly feel it is a pity that not enough funds could be raised. Keep up the good work and thanks in advance, PeeWee055 (talk) 04:39, 22 August 2013 (EDT)

Hi Zackmann08, thanks for the response. I'll just wait a few more weeks, don't worry. I live in Holland and ordered a patch and a sticker (sorry, I am temporarily on a very tight budget...) so I guess that should be send pretty easily. Take care, PeeWee055 (talk) 08:39, 26 August 2013 (EDT)
Hi Zackmann08, just checking to see if you have received an e-mail from me that I send through support@imfdb.org on 24th October. You were saying that all goods from the fundraiser would be shipped by September 1st but so far I have not received anything. That e-mail contains my payment details which should be helpful to determine what's been happening. Thanks a lot for letting me know, PeeWee055 (talk) 09:04, 6 November 2013 (EST)
Hi Zackmann, thanks for the quick response. I just resend my last month's e-mail to support@imfdb.org. Thanks for checking, PeeWee055 (talk) 15:10, 6 November 2013 (EST)
Hi Zackmann08, hello from Holland! Any news on my above resend e-mail of 6th November? I was hoping to hear from you about some stuff that I ordered and paid to support IMFDB on 5th May (...). Dispatch would be September latest but I still have not received anything, be it my order or a dispatch schedule. Maybe I better resend the above e-mail to a different mail address or contact Rockethub myself? Please let me know if I should wait to receive anything or maybe consider my payment to be a general 'gift' to IMFDB? Looking forward to hear from you and thanks in advance for checking, PeeWee055 (talk) 10:47, 25 November 2013 (EST)

Thank you!

Thank you for promoting me to Admin status! I'll try to do the best I can for the IMFDB, and not fail. Greg-Z (talk) 02:30, 20 September 2013 (EDT)

Server issues

Any ideas regarding all the editing downtime we've been having recently? We've had 12+ hour blackouts where nobody could edit, login or upload images and we're kind of wondering what's going on. Seems uploads just went down again, too. Evil Tim (talk) 15:26, 9 November 2013 (EST)

Hey

Good to see you back, it's been a while. --Funkychinaman (talk) 23:44, 2 October 2014 (EDT)
