The game's Content Warning

"Gee, I wonder what she's doing to that poor monstrous dog."

Just in case anyone was thinking I was joking in the page about what the game warns players about its content. --Mazryonh (talk) 03:11, 12 July 2014 (EDT)

Draft version completed

Okay, by now the first reasonably complete version of this page has been posted. I was lucky enough to snag a copy of the PC version of this great horror game when it was still relatively new, and I treasure it even now. As the screenshots show, the textures on the PC version are of much higher resolution than the PS2 version is capable of, and the lighting is much more realistic. Furthermore, you can save your games on your hard drive, rather than rely on finicky and fragile memory cards, use the mouse to look around better, and even use the entire keyboard to enter codes for alternate costumes, all of which make this game a godsend from Konami compared to the unmitigated disaster that was Konami's Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty PC port. If you see a copy of Silent Hill 3's PC version for sale and are a fan of horror games, don't hesitate--buy it!

I'll be able to upload screenshots of the unlockable weapons when I actually get them. However, my main question right now is whether or not the pistol, revolver, and shotgun in this game are actually exported models from Silent Hill 2, a game I do not have. They all look remarkably similar though, and I'd like to see if someone can actually confirm or refute this. --Mazryonh 02:14, 18 April 2010 (UTC)

They aren't. I'm 100% sure that Team Silent at least re-modeled everything, especially seeing as the Handgun in 2 is a full-sized Beretta 92FS with plastic grips. I'll get the renders of these weapons up when I can log in again. -protoAuthor

Well, thanks for posting the images of the renders. I appreciate it. If you could make a page for Silent Hill 2 it'd be great as well. I've got a copy of Silent Hill 4 for PC myself and will make a new page when I finish unlocking the rest of Silent Hill 3's bonuses. --Mazryonh 16:31, 29 April 2010 (UTC)

Again, funny gun choices.

I really love how Douglas uses the same model of Beretta Heather uses in the game. I know the Centurion seems to have become the official pistol of Silent Hill and the devs wouldn't have wanted to go out of their way to make a second pistol, but Doug is a former cop turned private eye. He's the sort of gruff kind of guy who would prefer classic American guns, like an Army 1911 or even a magnum revolver, the Model 29 or Python seem to fit him the best. --PyramidHead (talk) 21:40, 13 May 2013 (EDT)

Team Silent was like any game other developer that had to save money; it's always cheaper to reuse assets than make new ones. But in any case, the main focus of the Silent Hill series is more on the "creeping-you-out-factor" with seriously screwed-up stories, rather than shooting all the bad things you find, mixed in with some cheap jump scares (as is the case for the more modern Resident Evil titles). You do get to see an unrealistically-sized M1911 in Silent Hill 4, but that game has the least amount of usable firearms amongst the four titles that Team Silent developed. Team Silent isn't and was never Kojima Productions (of Metal Gear Solid fame), despite the fact that they share the same publisher, Konami.
I'd upload ingame screenshots of the Flamethrower, but reinstalling SH3 from my physical copy is such a pain with its 6 CDs. I also don't have my old save games any more, and you have to kill more enemies with guns than you do with melee attacks to get the Flamethrower which is difficult to do from a newly started game (starting from a cleared save let you increase the amount of bullets you pick up with every box, or you can just use the infinite SMG). --Mazryonh (talk) 23:31, 13 May 2013 (EDT)

Not entirely true, actually. It seems to me that they reused the 3D model for the Beretta Centurion from Silent Hill 2 in Silent Hill 3, but changed the textures so that the finish was shinier and the grips were wood instead. --Mazryonh (talk) 01:18, 19 January 2014 (EST)
