The Great Train Robbery is the 1903 short film that is widely considered the movie that began the motion picture industry. The film depicted an outlaw gang robbing a train and was one of the first to use the motion picture medium and editing techniques to actually tell a story. It is currently the oldest film documented on IMFDB.
The following firearms were used in the film The Great Train Robbery:
Colt 1878 Double Action
Justus Barnes, the outlaw leader uses what appears to be a Colt 1878 Double Action revolver to fire several shots at the camera in the now infamous ending to the picture.
Remington 1875
One of the outlaws is seen using what appears to be a Remington 1875 first in the holdup of the railroad telegraph office.
Single Action Army Cavalry Model (7.5" barrel)
The Single Action Army Cavalry Model also appears to be used by one of the outlaws.
Colt Lightning Shopkeeper
During the gunfight in the train car, a railroad messenger uses what appears to be a Colt Lightning Shopkeeper revolver.
Rifles
The posse that chases the outlaws carry rifles that are very difficult to identify. These do not appear to be lever action and are seen being reloaded from the top.
