I was at the World Con, where they had a presentation from studio representatives before the movie came out.  They even had a making of film narrated by Sean Connery, with a message to the World Con.  Someone asked why they were using shotguns, and they replied that they figured that shotguns have lower penetration, and so less danger to the habitat.  They also felt that shotguns would be easier to use in, and more dangerous to a spacesuit.  Krel

Wow, talk about an obscure choice for shotgun.  But I was wondering, do the Shotguns in the movie had that fancy engraving on the side that the commercial Browning 2000s do?  I have NEVER seen a real Browning 2000 that didn't.  They came from the factory like that, and I haven't been able to track down if a riot model (with plain receiver) was ever manufactured.  [[User:MoviePropMaster2008|MoviePropMaster2008]] 04:26, 26 September 2010 (UTC)
:I'm not sure actually.....there MIGHT be some engraving on it but it's too hard to tell for sure. I did a lot of hunting around on the internet looking for a shotgun that had a side loading port like the one in the movie, and I only found the Browning 2000 and the Browning Double Automatic. The shape of the Double Automatic is wrong, so I labeled it as a Browning 2000, only shotgun I could find that matches the one in the movie. - [[User:Diego Wolfwood|Diego Wolfwood]]
I just did some looking. The film quality is quite poor, but you can sort of make out part of the engraving next to the ejection port:

The U.S. NAvy uses shotguns on it's ships. Supposedly buckshot is safer around nuclear reactors. Possibly the filmakers were thinking of that. --Jcordell 11:23, 27 August 2010 (UTC)

I watched the movies, and when he is preparing for the hitmen he grabs shot gun shells from a ammo box that says low penetration round or something along those lines. rex095

Krel

Browning 2000

Wow, talk about an obscure choice for shotgun. But I was wondering, do the Shotguns in the movie had that fancy engraving on the side that the commercial Browning 2000s do? I have NEVER seen a real Browning 2000 that didn't. They came from the factory like that, and I haven't been able to track down if a riot model (with plain receiver) was ever manufactured. MoviePropMaster2008 04:26, 26 September 2010 (UTC)

I'm not sure actually.....there MIGHT be some engraving on it but it's too hard to tell for sure. - Diego Wolfwood

I just did some looking. The film quality is quite poor, but you can sort of make out part of the engraving next to the ejection port:

You can barely make out the engraving in the below picture on the shotgun in the movie.

Note the swirly type engraving on the upper left of the ejection port.
