::It was on the forum, and it wasn't technically a new rule, but I (and others) were complaining that people were creating too many new sub-categories. In the case of Medal of Honor and COD, the extra titles could easily be listed in the 'see also' section at the bottom of the page. Some of the OTHER MODS are tempted to delete some of the 'director' categories. Why? Sure, it was fine when we only had the big, multi movie directors who did a lot of gun heavy movies. But as is the case ALL THE TIME whenever something like that is done, we start getting queries from new members "Gee why isn't MY obscure art house director listed here?" and we eventually get tons of director sub-categories for relative minor directors (Though I liked The Bourne Identity I don't want to see a Doug Liman category.) But if we open the door, then all of the noobs will create TONS of really useless categories, and we would be hypocritical to tell them to stop. Again, people thought that we should NOT become another IMDB since we are IMFDB. Thus I remove actor 'filmographies' and links to their resumes, etc. because if we allowed that, then we would have to do it with EVERY actor and every film, etc. The cross linking for the entire site would take months/years and would be yet another level for us to complete in order to be 100% complete. I'd rather have less information (i.e. what we have always had on IMFDB) and not add any more levels of information, but be sure to be 100% complete in what we have. Just my two cents of course, but hopefully this explains what has been going on. Don't be hard on Ben41. He's a veteran member who graciously stopped adding categories because other members asked him to. That took a lot of class and I salute his willingness to let go of doing something he wanted to do for the overall benefit of the site. :) MoviePropMaster2008 02:04, 12 May 2010 (UTC) |

Thanks, this is what I was looking to do, except I didn't know how to make a category page. --funkychinaman 21:42, 11 May 2010 (UTC)

Moratorium on Category pages?
I thought we were putting a moratorium on category pages? --Ben41 22:31, 11 May 2010 (UTC)

- It was on the forum, and it wasn't technically a new rule, but I (and others) were complaining that people were creating too many new sub-categories. :) MoviePropMaster2008 02:04, 12 May 2010 (UTC)
