Battalion: Legacy (Previously called Battalion 1944) is a free-to play World War II first-person arcade shooter developed by Bulkhead Interactive. The game was funded via a successful Kickstarter campaign in February 2016 and released in Early Access in 1st of February 2018 for PC as Battalion 1944 and fully released on May 23rd, 2019. A promised console version of the game was subsequently cancelled to great controversy, and on August 9th, 2022, the game was made free-to-play and rebranded Battalion: Legacy.

Set on the Western and Eastern fronts of the Second World War, players play as the United States, Commonwealth, USSR, and Wehrmacht forces. Battalion: Legacy's gameplay is inspired by fast paced multiplayer games such as the Counter-Strike series and Call of Duty 2 puts gameplay before realism and historical accuracy. Each faction has their own exclusive load outs.

The following weapons appear in the video game Battalion: Legacy:

Handguns

Handguns are locked by faction. Every pistol is used in a modern two-handed grip, while the prevailing technique in the 1940s for pistol shooting was the one-handed "point shooting" method.

Colt M1911A1

The Colt M1911A1, referred to as simply "1911", is used by the US Army. It has a incorrect magazine capacity of 8 rounds.

Luger P08

The Luger P08 is called "Luger" in game and is used by the German faction. The toggle-lock action appears to be modified as to not get in the way of the front sight.

Enfield No. 2

The Enfield No.2 is the sole revolver in the game, and is also generically labeled as "Revolver". It is used by the Commonwealth faction loadouts and uses a speed loader when reloading.

Submachine Guns

Submachine guns are placed in two categories, and are split into two subcategories by the game: Submachine Guns and the rather vague and mysterious description of "Light Weapons".

M3A1 "Grease Gun"

The M3A1 "Grease Gun" Appears as the "Light Weapon" for the US faction under the name of "Grease Gun". The rear iron sight has been sawed-off and the charging handle is never pulled on an empty reload.

M1A1 Thompson

The M1A1 Thompson is the submachine gun of the US factions. Despite being modeled with a 30-round magazine, it only holds 20 rounds in-game, and has a noticeably lower rate of fire than in real life.

M1928A1 Thompson

The M1928A1 Thompson is referred to as the "British Thompson" in game. It is the submachine gun of the Commonwealth, and is of course fitted with its signature drum magazine which actually holds 50 rounds. Like the M1A1 Thompson, it features a slower fire-rate then in real life.

Haenel MP 28/II

The MP 28/II, referred to as "MP28" is the "Light Weapon" for the Wehrmacht. It feeds from a 30-round magazine of 9x19mm, although by 1944, most MP 28s had been phased out of frontline service by the MP 40.

MP 40

The MP 40 is the German submachine gun. It is fitted with a brown Bakelite lower receiver, indicating it is a post-war model and thus anachronistic.

PPS-43

The PPS-43 is the "Light Weapon" for the USSR faction, appearing as "PPS 43". Despite it feeding from a 35-round PPS Magazine, it only holds 30 rounds.

Sten Mk II

the Sten Mk II appears as "Sten" and is the "Light Weapon" for the Commonwealth faction. It has very little recoil, noticeably lower than any automatic weapon in the game.

Shotguns

Locked by faction and have the unrealistically low effective range typical of a video game shotgun.

Winchester Model 1897 "Trench Gun"

The Winchester Model 1897 "Trench Gun" appears as "Trenchgun" and is used by the US, Commonwealth, and strangely, the German faction, despite Germany's vocal dislike of shotguns in warfare during World War I and II. It holds 6 shells tube despite having a 5-round tube (it can reach 6 by loading one shell in the chamber, although this is not replicated in-game). Furthermore, the Model 1897 uses an anachronistic Remington-style ghost ring sight not invented until the 1980s.

Baikal IZh-43

The Baikal IZh-43, called "Baikal 21" in-game, is exclusive to the USSR faction. Its inclusion is anachronistic because the Izh-43 was not produced until 1986. What exactly the "Baikal 21" name is inspired by is not clear, as the Baikal IZh-21, the closest possible interpretation, is a pump-action shotgun manufactured decades after World War II.

Semi-Automatic Rifles/Carbines

M1A1 Carbine

The M1A1 Carbine (incorrectly referred to as the basic "M1 Carbine" in game) is the Carbine for the US faction. Its rear sight is too wide and in the skin viewer, its front iron sight is missing.

M1 Garand

Gewehr 43

Bolt-Action Rifles

Every infantry bolt-action rifle uses a stripper clip to reload, even if the magazine wasn't empty at the start of the reload.

M1903A4 Springfield

The M1903A4 Springfield (just called "Springfield" in game) is the sniper rifle for the US Army, it uses the Model 330 Weaver scope and is the only bolt-action rifle to not have an iron sight variant in game.

Karabiner 98k

The Karabiner 98k is the standard bolt-action rifle and sniper rifle of the Wehrmacht. The sniper variant uses a Zeiss ZF42 scope and both variants have a hooded sight.

Mosin Nagant M91/30

The Mosin Nagant M91/30 is the standard bolt-action rifle and sniper rifle of the USSR. It correctly uses M91/30 sights and its sniper variant uses a PU 3.5x scope. The infantry variant and sniper variant both have a turned down bolt handle. When reloading, the clip is incorrectly kicked out by the bolt closing, when in reality it must be manually removed by the user.

Lee-Enfield No. 4 Mk I

The Lee-Enfield No. 4 Mk I is referred to as simply "Enfield" and is the standard bolt action rifle and sniper rifle of the Commonwealth factions. Like all other rifles, it loads via clips regardless of how many rounds have been fired, but in this case, it will load an entire 10-round magazine with only a single 5-round stripper clip. It has the highest capacity out of all bolt-action rifle in game. The sniper variant uses a side-mounted 1916 Aldis scope; a more period-accurate option for a scoped Lee-Enfield would have been the Lee-Enfield No. 4 Mk I (T).

The carbine variant of the Lee-Enfield No. 4, the Lee-Enfield No. 5 Mk I "Jungle Carbine", (just called Jungle Carbine in game) is the Carbine of the Commonwealth forces. Like its bigger brother the No. 4, it will always be loaded with a single 5-round clip.

Assault Rifles

Almost every member of the "Assault Rifle" class are actually light machine guns, except the StG 44.

StG 44

The StG 44 is the Wehrmacht assault rifle (and the only actual assault rifle in the game). It is anachronistic on every early war map in the game, and its rate of fire is a bit off from its real-life capabilities.

Light Machine Guns

Not a category in game, but all but one weapon in the "Assault Rifle" class are actually light machine guns.

M1918A2 Browning Automatic Rifle

The M1918A2 Browning Automatic Rifle is the US Army's "Assault Rifle". Despite being the A2 variant, it lacks a bipod. The flip-up rear iron sights also go completely unused.

Fedorov Avtomat M1923

The Fedorov Avtomat is the Soviet "Assault Rifle". While the Fedorov is arguably the earliest assault rifle in the modern conception of the term, it was historically designed to be and used as a light machine gun. It's anachronistic because most Fedorov Avtomats were out of Soviet service by 1925, with their last recorded major use during the Winter War. A more suitable option for the Soviets could be the Tokarev AVT-40 or Degtyaryov DP-27.

Lewis Gun

The Lewis Gun is the Commonwealth "Assault Rifle" (probably the loosest use of the "assault rifle" term in the game). It correctly uses a 47 round pan magazine but lacks a bipod. The changing handle also does not reciprocate properly.
