The Hunger Games is a 2012 sci-fi/action film directed by Gary Ross that is the feature film adaptation of the first book in The Hunger Games series of novels. Set in a dystopian future, the film stars Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss Everdeen, a young woman who takes part in the Hunger Games, an annual gladiatorial fight to the death. The cast also includes Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Woody Harrelson, and Elizabeth Banks. The series consisted of four films, including 2013's The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, 2014's The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1, and 2015's The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 2.
