The Cheap Detective is a 1978 parody of classic film noir such as Casablanca and The Maltese Falcon starring Peter Falk as a private detective in Nazi-occupied San Francisco in 1939-1940. It is the spiritual sequel of Neil Simon's mystery spoof Murder by Death.
The following firearms were used in the film The Cheap Detective:
Mauser 1934
Lou Peckinpaugh (Peter Falk) carries a Mauser 1934 throughout the film.
Colt Model 1908 Vest Pocket
Pepe Damascus (Dom DeLuise) draws an engraved Colt Model 1908 Vest Pocket (similar to the one seen in Chinatown) on Peckinpaugh inside Nix Place. Peckinpaugh (Peter Falk) himself is seen drawing it later outside his apartment.
Smith & Wesson Model 10 Snubnose
Georgia Merkle (Marsha Mason) holds a Smith & Wesson Model 10 Snubnose on Peckinpaugh inside his bathroom. He takes it from her and holds it after accidentally firing it down the toilet during a struggle. Georgia uses it with an erroneous suppressor in the finale.
Savage 1907
Ezra Desire (Sid Caesar) holds a Savage 1907 on Peckinpaugh while discussing the egg robbery.
Smith & Wesson Model 10
Marcel (James Coco), the French Resistance member in San Francisco, carries a Smith & Wesson Model 10 throughout the film.
Colt Model 1903 Pocket Hammerless
Boy (Paul Williams) carries a Colt Model 1903 Pocket Hammerless with pearl grips in a shoulder holster, which Peckinpaugh forces him to throw on the bed in his apartment.
Luger P08
The Nazi officer Col. Schlissel (Nicol Williamson) carries a Luger P08 at the pier.
Winchester Model 1897
When the policemen show up at the San Francisco pier, one can be seen holding a Winchester Model 1897 shotgun.
