The Captain is a 2017 World War II German-language drama directed by Robert Schwentke (Red, Flightplan). Set in 1945 near the end of the Second World War, the film is based on the real story of Willi Herold, a young German deserter who assumes the identity of a Luftwaffe captain after finding an abandoned captain uniform, and gradually transforms from a cowardly nobody into a ruthless German officer.

Hauptmann Junker (Alexander Fehling) is seen firing a Walther P38 at the beginning of the film. The Walther is also used by Gefreiter Kipinski (Frederick Lau), Karl Schütte (Bernd Hölscher), Gerda Schütte (Britta Hammelstein) and Brockhoff (Marko Dyrlich).
Walther PP
A Walther PP is aquired by Hauptmann Willi Herold (Max Hubacher) from the left-behind stuff of the Luftwaffe. During the execution of P.o.W.s, he hands it to Roger (Samuel Finzi).
Rifles
Mauser 98 Sporter
Capt. Junker owns a scoped Mauser 98 Sporter rifle as his personal firearm to hunt deserters.
Karabiner 98k
German Feldgendarmerie and regular soldiers including Gefreiter Freytag are armed with Karabiner 98k rifles. Willi Herold is also seen with Freytag's Kar98k and some members of the Volkssturm carry this carbine as well.
Mauser Puška vz. 24
Some German soldiers can be seen with vz. 24 Czech Mauser rifles.

MP40
Gefreiter Kipinski and various other German soldiers wield MP40s.

Two MP41s are wielded by German paratroopers who united with Herold's group.

An MG42 is briefly seen held by Roger in Herold's Mercedes-Benz G3.

Two scattered German soldiers with a 2cm FlaK 38 AA-gun join Herold's group. This FlaK is used to murder several prisoners what actually also happened in reality.

Panzerfaust 30
A Panzerfaust 30 is seen mounted on a bicycle.
