This is another one of the movies I really wanted to do a page for before I registered for IMFDB. I had actually read the original manga from start to finish, and I gotta say- it's pretty frickin' good, even if it gets a weird. You really have to love how the anonymous users of the Japanese equivalent of 4chan are pretty much the series' most important survivors (their name for the zombies, ZQN, comes from the Japanese internet slang DQN, which refers to a stupid person; a scanlation translated this term as "zombf*g"). I really loved the chapters where it shows the anons trying to gather information and keep each other updated on the apocalypse, their "haha look at these losers" commentary on the mass suicides to prevent infection is really hilarious, depressing and scarily accurate at the same time.
| |||
The movie is pretty good, even if it only adapts like, the first third of the movie. I was pretty surprised to find out that the Ruger Red Label (a gun Discord identified the shotgun for me AND told me about its' history, without them this page wouldn't be possible) used in the movie is actually out of production... pretty cool shotgun nonetheless. It's a real powerhouse in the movie, blowing up zombie heads left and right. The original manga's Beretta 686 is pretty cool too, and the bolt-action Miroku MSS-20 shotgun that Hideo acquires later is really neat too. The mere existence of that shotgun is really something, if I'm not mistaken, you can only own a shotgun for the first 10 years of having a gun license in Japan BEFORE you can own a rifle (and I barely mentioned the red tape needed to own a gun), so it's very understandable to see why a bolt action shotgun that only fires slugs would be made and mass-produced.
| |||
Speaking of the other guns in the movie, I thought that the airsoft guns used by the survivors were pretty wacky, really goes to show how desperate they are to survive. The power balance with Hideo's shotgun is really special too, how every survivor at the mall sees it as extremely important due to the most powerful weapon there being a crossbow pistol held by Iura, the camp's leader.
| |||
All in all, I thought that this was a pretty nice and wacky movie. It gave me a love and appreciation for double-barreled shotguns in zombie media lol. That's about it. --Dnkakusei (talk) 12:28, 18 April 2023 (UTC) |

I Am A Hero - Writer's commentary
All in all, I thought that this was a pretty nice and wacky movie. It gave me a love and appreciation for double-barreled shotguns in zombie media lol. That's about it. --Dnkakusei (talk) 12:28, 18 April 2023 (UTC)
