The AMT Backup is an American compact semi-automatic pistol. The Backup was first made in 1978 by Ordnance Manufacturing Corporation (OMC) and sold as the OMC Backup. Arcadia Machine & Tool (AMT) soon took over production and sold it as the AMT Backup. It was one of the first ultra-compact semi-automatic handguns, released at a time when compact firearms was a role typically taken by snub-nosed, small-frame revolvers. As the name would imply, it was marketed as a backup gun for police officers or security guards, as well as a concealable weapon for self-defense.
