House of Cards is a Netflix original series that initially starred Kevin Spacey as Frank Underwood, an ambitious US Congressman who is willing to go to any length to climb the ladder of power in Washington. He is accompanied by his wife Claire (Robin Wright), who has ambitions of her own. Throughout the series, Underwood breaks the "fourth wall" and speaks directly to the audience about his motivations. House of Cards was adapted from the BBC miniseries of the same name and premiered on Netflix in 2013 as the very first original series for the streaming website. One of the executive producers of the series was David Fincher, who also helmed the first two episodes. Following the departure of Spacey from the series, the focus of the sixth and final season shifted from Frank Underwood to Claire Underwood and her ascendance to the Presidency.
