The character depicted by [[Abraham Belaga]], Robert Tual, is heavly inspirated by the Chief Warrant Officer Roger Vanderberghe. A resistant fighter at age of 16 and who joined regular army with his brother after WW2 for duty in Indochina. In 1948 his brother, his last family, is KIA. He becomes Sergeant and lead a recon platoon composed only by anticommunist local soldiers. The efficients of all actions behind ennemy lines are due that Vanderberghe use non conventional warfare tactics and copy the same strategy and use similar uniform than the Việt Minh. Later finally promuted Chief Warrant Officer, his commando, the number 24, whose the members are nicknamed '''The Black Tigers''' is one of the best unit of the war, even the Việt Minh command put a reward over Vanderberghe (a reward that Vanderberghe stole after pretending being captured, but the soldiers who claimed the reward were in fact his own). All the members of the commando are Vietnamese soldiers and ex Việt Minh soldiers, only the officers and NCOs are French. But in January 1952, he is assassinated while sleeping at age of 24, betrayed by an ex Việt Minh figther, who was infiltrated. He was the most decorated NCOs of 20th century with 5 medals and 18 citations, he was also wounded 8 times. General De Lattre de Tassigny said of him. White Soldier (French title: Soldat blanc) is a 2014 French DTV war movie directed by Eric Zonca. Set during the First Indochina War, the story chronicles the friendship of two French soldiers- Robert Tual (Abraham Belaga), a WWII veteran and André Cariou (Emile Berling), a young enlisted man. They witness the growing conflict and will choose very different paths.

Luger P08
Black Commando members, including Tual and Cariou, use Luger P08s as secondary weapon.
Browning Hi-Power
Before he becomes the leader of the commandos, Tual briefly carries a Browning Hi-Power.
Tokarev TT-33
The Tokarev TT-33 is used by Việt Minh officers. During the ambush of a small French unit, Cariou executes an officer with the pistol.

A Japanese officer is seen with what appears to be a German Sauer Model 1913.

The primary rifle of the French forces in Indochina is the MAS-36. Some are non-firing props.
Berthier Model 1916 Carbine
A few French soldiers are seen carrying the Berthier Model 1916 Carabine.
M1 Carbine
French troops and commandos use M1 Carbines against the Việt Minh.
Mauser Karabiner 98k
The Karabiner 98k is seen in the hands of French soldiers and Việt Minh guerillas.
Norinco Type 56 Carbine
Việt Minh soldiers and some colonial soldiers carry Norinco Type 56 Carbines without bayonets.
Mosin Nagant M44 Carbine
Japanese soldiers are incorrectly equipped with the Mosin Nagant M44 Carbine. Việt Minh guerillas use these rifles as well.
Unknown Rifle
French troops capture some rifles, but it is hard to determinate what rifles they are.
Submachine Guns
MAS-38
French Army soldiers, most prominently Robert Tual (Abraham Belaga), use the MAS-38.
M1928A1 Thompson
Several commandos use M1928A1 Thompsons with a 20-round magazines. Tual and Quoc use their SMGs without stocks.
Sten
Numerous French soldiers are equipped with the Sten.
MP41
An MP41 is briefly seen during the beach battle.
PPSh-41
Việt Minh troops and Vietnamese commandos use the PPSh-41.
PPS-43
Several Việt Minh fighters and later the traitor Cariou use the PPS-43 (or Chinese copy) against French troops.

A Bren is used by a Black Commando member. It appears to be the Mk1 (M) variant.
