"Frenchy" is a member of the French Resistance. "Frenchy" and his compatriots want to hire Harry and his boat for "a Job." A shootout at the hotel ensues when the Vichy French police try to arrest some of the Resistance operatives. An American customer of Harry's is killed in the shootout. The Vichy Sûreté Nationale (Vichy Gestapo) shows up with armed French Navy sailors and question Harry and then confiscates his money. Being put in the middle of the Gestapo's search for the leader of the French resistance Harry decides to help a resistance leader escape with the help of Marie "Slim" Browning played by Lauren Bacall. | |||
