The following weapons were used in the film Legends of the Fall:
WARNING! POSSIBLE SPOILERS AHEAD!
Revolvers & Pistols
Single Action Army
Both Col. William Ludlow (Anthony Hopkins) and Tristan Ludlow (Brad Pitt) keep Single Action Army revolvers as their sidearms while working on the ranch.
Webley Mk VI
The issued British soldier sidearm is the Webley Mk VI revolver, though Canadian troops were never issued Webleys. Historically in 1915 they would have been carrying Colt M1911s or Smith & Wesson Hand Ejectors, depending on which division they belonged to.
Luger P08
Tristan (Brad Pitt) takes a Luger P08 off of a German soldier and uses it to dispatch the German machine gunners after they shoot Samuel (Henry Thomas).
Colt Model 1908 Pocket Hammerless
A nickel Colt Model 1908 Pocket Hammerless is the sidearm of James O'Banion (John Novak) in the film.
Smith & Wesson 4th Model
John T. O'Banion (Robert Wisden) shows Tristan's son, Samuel Decker Ludlow (David Kaye), his sidearm, which is a nickel plated Smith & Wesson 4th Model revolver in .32 caliber. It could also be the 5th model but the front sight appears to be integrated to the barrel ribbing, a distinct trait of the 4th Model.
Smith & Wesson Model 36
Susannah Fincannon Ludlow (Julia Ormond) is seen with a nickel plated Smith & Wesson Model 36 revolver. This is incorrect since the Model 36 wasn't released yet in the 1920's. It was released in 1950.
Colt Police Positive
Sheriff Tynert (Kenneth Welsh) tries to shoot the Colonel with a nickel Colt Police Positive.
Rifles
Winchester 1873
The Ludlow family keeps a Winchester 1873 as a hunting rifle, and several of the Ludlows use it, most notably Tristan Ludlow (Brad Pitt).
Henry 1860
Samuel Ludlow (Henry Thomas) is seen holding a Henry 1860 rifle when watching his wife shoot.
Winchester 1895
Decker (Paul Desmond) is handed a Winchester 1895 rifle by Col. Ludlow (Anthony Hopkins) when he aids Teen Tristan (Eric Johnson) after he is attacked by a bear.
Remington Rolling Block
Whenever hunting bears, Col. Ludlow (Anthony Hopkins) and One Stab (Gordon Tootoosis) use military style Remington Rolling Block rifles.
Sharps 1874 Long Range
Decker (Paul Desmond) uses a Sharps 1874 Long Range rifle fitted with a Vernier peep sight as his main weapon throughout the entire film.
Marlin-Ballard No. 1-1/2 Hunters Rifle
One of the hunters in Africa is seen using a Marlin-Ballard No. 1-1/2 Hunters rifle fitted with an enlongated scope.
Unknown Rifle
One Stab (Gordon Tootoosis) is seen holding an unknown rifle during the scene of the trail of tears at the start of the film.
Lee-Enfield No. 1 Mk III*
When the Ludlow boys join the Canadian Expeditionary Force to fight the Germans in WWI, they are issued Lee-Enfield No. 1 Mk III* Short Magazine Lee-Enfield (SMLE) rifles like the other soldiers. It should be noted that Canadian issued rifle was still the Ross rifle in 1915.
Ross Mk III
At least, one Ross Mk III rifle can be seen over the back of Tristan's adjutant.
Mauser Gewehr 1898
The Mauser Gewehr 1898 rifle is used by the German troops in service during WWI.
Karabiner 98K
A German cavalryman is seen firing a WWII-era Karabiner 98k at Tristan while on horseback before Tristan kills him, instead of the period-correct Kar 98 or Kar 88.
Submachine Gun
Thompson M1921
Some of the police who work with the O'Banions use M1921 Thompson submachine guns fitted with 50 round drums.
Double Barreled Shotguns
Double Barreled Shotgun
Tristan (Brad Pitt) brings Colonel (Anthony Hopkins) back a decorative Double Barreled Shotgun after traveling most of the world. He uses it to kill the last of the O'Banion thugs on his lawn when they come to kill Tristan.
Holland and Holland Paradox
Tristan (Brad Pitt) is seen using a Holland & Holland Paradox while hunting big game in Africa. This gun's unique feature is the smooth bore barrels with rifling only at the end of the barrels.
Machine Gun
Maxim MG08
Maxim MG08 machine guns are used by the German troops.
