Attack Force Z was a 1982 Australian-produced WWII film that starred then unknown actors Mel Gibson and Sam Neill along with John Phillip Law, Chris Haywood and John Waters (the Australian actor, not the director) as members of a commando team sent to rescue the survivors of a plane crash on a Japanese-occupied island in the Pacific.
The following weapons were used in the film Attack Force Z:
M3A1 submachine gun
The M3A1 "Grease Gun" fitted with a suppressor is the main weapon carried by the Z Force commandos throughout the film. In reality, M3A1s were never used by Z Special Unit during WWII, but they did use the suppressed Austen Mk2 submachine gun.
Smith & Wesson Victory Model Revolver
Carried by all the Z Force commandos and used by Captain P.G. Kelly (Mel Gibson) until he hands it to Lin, the local resistance leader.
Nambu Type 14
Japanese officers are seen armed with the Nambu Type 14 Pistol.
Arisaka rifles
Arisaka Type 99 battle rifles are seen used by Japanese forces.
Winchester Model 12
Lieutenant J.A. Veitch (John Phillip Law) produces a take-down Winchester Model 12 shotgun in olive parkerizing that he gives to the guerrilla leader Lin in the final battle.
Browning M1919A4
Japanese forces are also seen using the Browning M1919A4 machine gun. After taking out a machine gun nest, Capt. Kelly is seen using the machine gun.
Trivia
Despite the film's World War II setting, the German DVD cover depicts a modern day M16A1 with M203 being wielded by Mel Gibson (this is actually Gibson's head superimposed on the body of Arnold Schwarzenegger from the film Predator).
