Army of Shadows (L'armee des ombres) is a 1969 French film directed by Jean-Pierre Melville chronicling a group of French resistance fighters between October 1942 and February 1943.

Colt M1911
Colt M1911 pistols are the main sidearms of most of the resistance fighters, including Philippe Gerbier (Lino Ventura), Félix Lepercq (Paul Crauchet), and ex-legionnaire Guillaume 'Le Bison' Vermersch (Christian Barbier). Since they are funded and supplied by the British in the film, with Philippe and Felix once even mentioning that the British were supposed to supply them with silencers, it can be assumed that the M1911 pistols were also British surplus.
