During the WWII, Gołas was a member of Polish youth resistance organization ''Szare Szeregi'' (Gray Ranks). He started his cinema career in 1954 and appeared on screen for more than forty years. Among Gołas' awards are the Officer's Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta and Gloria Artis Medal for Merit to Culture.
