Van Zant's shotgun is without a doubt a Mossberg 500, the pistol grips alone are not nearly enough to prove otherwise. You can see the Mossberg 500 has a different magazine tube, different ejection port, reciever tang mounted safety, and no follower guide like an 870 would have.
