He was originally a dancer, graduated from the Theatre Academy (''DAMU'') and became the youngest ever member of the National Theatre. Jan established himself also as a film and television actor. In the U.S., they have established themselves as the devil Woland in a dramatization of Bulgakov's novel ''The Master and Margarita''. In films of Milos Forman played the little roles - as the reporter in ''Ragtime'' (1981) or shooter in the film [[The People vs. Larry Flynt]] (1996).
