When they first get to the gun you can see how short a section of the recoil track (not the correct name but can't remember what it is called right now) there is behind the breech. On the Pak 40 this is much longer. Then as the camera pans across you can see the extra little wings on the side of the Pak 38 shield, and then when the camera moves forward you can just see the top of the outside upward projections of the lower shield (which were hidden behind the folded lower half in the original screenshot due to the low angle).
