Like the M4A1, the flashlight placement is strange with the handguard rails available and this would also eliminate any functional sighting, but it's possible this may be done on a fixed carrying handle AR-15 rifle to authenticate attachment placement to the time period, and likely also to be held by the hip by the soldier while the flashlight emits lighting and "sighting". Unlike the Bushmaster HBAR and Colt M4A1, the M16A1 is period correct for 1984 in Season 2.
