The film is considered one of the best films that the Swiss spiritual national defence has produced. In the winter of 1915/16, ''Artilleriebatterie'' 38 took up quarters in Courgenay. Initially thinking that by Christmas the war would be over and the army would be demobilized again, the men were disappointed not to be able to celebrate Christmas with their families.
