The weapon was built by Felcan Enterprises, the movie's armorers, after director John Badham showed them a picture of the Knight's Armament Revolver rifle and requested that they acquire one for use in the movie. The weapon was not available to film armorers, so the gunsmiths at Felcan were forced to modify a Ruger Super Redhawk in order to satisfy the production's request.

			Although this weapon was originally built for ''[[Another Stakeout]]'', it would later be re-used on countless other productions filmed in Vancouver, including ''[[The Sentinel (TV series)\|The Sentinel]]'', ''Highlander (TV series)'', ''[[Supernatural]]'', ''[[Psych]]'' and ''[[The X-Files]]''.
