These films are not selected as the ‘best’ American films of all time, but rather as works of enduring importance to American culture. They reflect who we are as a people and as a nation.
L.A. Set in the early 1950's, the film follows three LAPD detectives whose paths cross during an investigation into a multiple homicide that involved a former officer. The film's cast includes Russell Crowe, Kevin Spacey, Guy Pearce, Kim Basinger, and James Cromwell. L.A. Confidential was also adapted for television (see [[L.A.

L.A. Confidential was also adapted as an 2003 unsold pilot written to be a prequel to the film starring Kiefer Sutherland as Det. Jack Vincennes, David Conrad as Det. Ed Exley, Josh Hopkins as Officer Bud White, Melissa George as Lynn Bracken, and Tom Nowicki as Captain Dudley Smith. Originally planned for a 13 episode run on HBO, the premium channel eventually passed on the project. The FOX network then ordered a pilot, but declined to pick it up as a series. Filmed in 1999 and intended to air in 2000, the pilot did not air on television until the fall of 2003. Though intended to be a prequel, the pilot differs from the film on a few facts, like Bud White's first meeting with Lynn Bracken and Ed Exley already working for Internal Affairs. The episode ends in a cliffhanger, one which will never be resolved. The entire episode is available as a special feature on home video copies of L.A. Confidential the film.
<br>
Note: The episode lacks opening and closing titles, not even a title card, and the IMDB page is sparse, thus many of the actors cannot be properly credited.
The Shawshank Redemption is the 1994 feature film adaptation of the short story Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption written by Stephen King. The film focuses on the friendship that develops over twenty years between two prison inmates: a hardened convict (Morgan Freeman) and a former banker (Tim Robbins), who was wrongfully convicted of killing his wife and her lover. The film, while nominated for seven Academy Awards, was not a financial success at the time of its theatrical release, but has since developed a much beloved status upon its subsequent viewings on cable and video outlets. The Shawshank Redemption was directed by Frank Darabont, who would go on to adapt and direct two more of Stephen King's works for film: The Green Mile and The Mist.
It is not likely an M21, since prisons aren't usually outfitted with Marine sniper weaponry. Since at the time this scene takes place, the M14 and M21 rifles were in frontline service with the U.S. Military, it is doubtful they would be issued to guards in some prison in New England.
In any event, close inspection of the rifle also reveals that it lacks the U.S.G.I. M-14's trademark, the fire control selector lug.

Top Gun is the 1986 military drama starring Tom Cruise as LT Pete "Maverick" Mitchell, an F-14 Tomcat aviator who is invited to train with other aviators at the US Navy's elite pilot school, known as "Top Gun". The film was directed by Tony Scott and was made with the cooperation of the US Navy.

The following weapons were used in the film Top Gun:

__TOC__<br clear="all">

M61 Vulcan
Although not shown being fired in the film (despite the pilots "switching to guns" multiple times), the F-14A Tomcats flown by the protagonists are armed with internally-mounted M61 Vulcan cannons. The enemy planes, designated in the film as the "MiG-28" (in reality the planes were American-made Northrop F-5E & F-5F Tiger II's), are seen firing "Gatling"-type guns on the F-14 Tomcats in the final dogfight. Whenever the "guns" are seen fired, the closeup of the weapon appears to be the M61 Vulcan as well (Russian fighter aircraft at the time were armed with the 23mm GSh-6-23M or a 30mm GSh-6-30). The "Vulcan"-type gun closely resembles the mockup used in 1983's Blue Thunder and 1986's Band of the Hand.

Pontiac M39
While not shown firing, the Northrop F-5E & F-5F Tiger II fighters representing the enemy "MiG-28" fighters can still be seen armed with their Pontiac M39 cannons mounted in the nose forward of the canopy.
While the MIG's are seen firing "Gatling-type" guns from the wing roots, the two M39 cannons are still visible in the nose of the aircraft. At the time, the actual Top Gun school used the F-5 as well as the A-4 Skyhawk as MiG aggressors during training exercises.]]

Trivia
In reality, the F-14 Tomcats would be using M61 Vulcan 20mm cannons, and even though both jets are seen using the same guns, the Russian MiG-28 would not be using the same guns.
In reality, the MiG-28 does not exist; Mikoyan Gurevich has only used odd numbers for their aircraft (MiG 25, 29, 31, and so on).
The M61 Vulcan cannons on the F-14 are internal, making it not readily visible other than a momentary puff of smoke and muzzle flash from the cannon port on the left side of the forward fuselage far below the cockpit (see the film The Final Countdown).
:Yeah that's definitely a Woodsman. I moved those to the main page, so what about the revolver and the other pistol? --ZaneTheDudeMan (talk) 10:27, 15 November 2015 (EST)

I concur with the Woodsman ID. As for the revolver, it's medium-size, blued, 6" barrel, and has a full underlug that seems squared-off at the end. The film was released before the S&W L-frames came out, so my best guess would be a Colt Python, though it doesn't seem to have the vented barrel rib (however, that could just be the distance and angle of that shot). ::About pistol on the second screenshot, it's may be Thompson Center Arms Contender, but also may be some of the air guns, like Crossman American Classic. Pyramid Silent (talk) 15:43, 15 November 2015 (EST)

The background revolver seems to match up with a Colt Python, and judging by the rear sight and the bottom of the gun, I'd say the second pistol identifies most with the Crossman.
