Chinese Makarov
Should we also have a section for the Chinese Makarov, the Type 59 in this page?

ATM Machine Syndrome
I think we should rename this article "Makarov pistol". PM is an acronym of "Pistolet Makarova" (literally "Makarov pistol"), so calling it "Makarov PM" is redundant and is analogous to saying "Makarov pistol Makarov". This same mistake is often made with the Dragunov sniper rifle. SVD is also an acronym (meaning "Dragunov sniper rifle", translated), so "SVD Dragunov" is incorrect for the same reason. --MattyDienhoff 04:26, 7 April 2010 (UTC)

Why can't we just go with "Makarov" or "Dragunov?" It's accurate (unlike Schmeisser) and they're the only guns known by those names (unlike "Browning" or "Springfield.") Most laypeople are probably more familiar with "Tokarev" rather than "TT-33." --Funkychinaman 16:58, 7 April 2010 (UTC)
:::So I assume you want to ignore the Tokarev Rifle aka SVT-40? MoviePropMaster2008 22:29, 7 April 2010 (UTC)
:Leave it as it is now. For english-speaking people it's more recognizable.

:In Russia we call this weapons simple - Makarov or PM/Dragunov or SVD/RPD or Degtyaryov. I seen, in the USA and the Europe Russian weapons calls like on this site - Makarov PM/SVD Dragunov/etc. --RedCharger 18:28, 7 April 2010 (UTC)
If this was russian site name would be like пистолет Макарова(ПМ), but in English Pistol Makarov or Makarov's Pistol just don't sound right. So leave it as it is.
: Answering to "Most laypeople are probably more familiar with "Tokarev" rather than "TT-33.", most russians calling Tokarevs pistol
:::That's what the Military called it during the Cold War. We just eliminated the "aka" (also Known As) so it would be SVD (aka) Dragunov, or Makarov (aka) Pistolet Makarova. It's the American Way. Deal with it. ;) Besides, we Americans are notorious for redundancy in our speech. "Actual Experience" "Armed Gunman" "Basic Fundamentals" "never at any time" "unexpected surprise" "surrounded on all sides" etc. etc. etc. LOL MoviePropMaster2008 22:27, 7 April 2010 (UTC)

I just saw "City of Ghosts" (2003) with Matt Dillon and James Caan. The plot involves Cambodian and Russian gangsters: seems like everybody has a Makarov in this one.
