Fabbrica d'Armi Pietro Beretta is an Italian arms company most commonly known for handguns, though they also produce rifles, shotguns and submachine guns. Their Beretta 92 pistol series is particularly popular in both the civilian and LE / military markets, and has been adopted by the US military as the M9. Established almost five hundred years ago as a maker of arquebus barrels, Beretta has the distinction of being one of the oldest companies in the world outside of the brewery industry. Currently, Beretta is the owner of Franchi, Benelli, SAKO and Stoeger Industries.
About
Fabbrica d'Armi Pietro Beretta is an Italian arms company most commonly known for handguns, though they also produce rifles, shotguns and submachine guns.
M16A1 (with A2 handguards)
Various styles of the M16 rifle series appeared in JAG during the show's long run. M16A1s with A2 hand guards were frequently used to simulate M16A2s. These guns make sense in JAG, because the military does use a lot of "Frankenstein" M16s. The Air Force being the worst offender, but they can be found in service with all branches.

Can also be seen in several episodes of Season 7 including "Code of Conduct" (being used by Navy SEALs), "Tribunal" (incorrectly shown being used by US Army Special Forces), and "In Country" (seen being carried by Harm, Mac, and Gunnery Sgt. === Colonial Handgun (Smith & Wesson Model 686) ===

A heavily modified Smith & Wesson Model 686 L-Frame revolver is portrayed as the standard Colonial sidearm in the mini-series and the first season. Among other features the weapon has an under barrel explosive launcher (like the old LeMat grapeshot barrel,) although the explosive launcher was never used onscreen. The Miniseries version had hardly any real functionality and was redesigned almost from scratch for Season 1 when scripts required more specific actions with the guns. After that it was redesigned again and, starting with the early second season, the original sidearms have been nearly completely replaced by the FN Five-seveN. These guns were inconvenient as they had to be disassembled before they could be reloaded. They later returned during the flashback scenes in "Razor."

The gun was intentionally designed to look like Harrison Ford's gun in Blade Runner as an homage, but also to emphasize that like Blade Runner, this isn't a "future show with laser-guns" but uses realistic, projectile-firing guns. Coincidentally, Edward James Olmos stars in Battlestar Galactica, but he also played the mysterious police officer Gaff in Blade Runner.

Colonial Standard Military Sidearm (FN FiveseveN)
From Season 2 to the end, this weapon became the standard Colonial Military sidearm. This appears to be based off of the FN FiveseveN. It keeps the underbarrel explosive launcher. This changeover allows for real semi-automatic fire and makes use of the existing stores of 5.7 x 28mm blank ammunition. The explosive launcher was muzzle loaded, and was featured in the second season episode "Valley of Darkness," but not prominently afterward.

Seen in a display case is a long barreled cavalry version of this classic Colt Single Action Army revolver. This one is unusual because of the shoulder stock attached (though detachable shoulder stocks were used on a SAA Lee Van Cleef used in For a Few Dollars More.)
Submachine guns
FN P90
For the mini-series and the first season this was the main assault weapon of the Colonial Marines on board the Galactica. The attachments for the weapons (flashlight, red dot sight) are somewhat the norm for the "real world" the only difference being the attachment of a suppressor which seems to be more for dramatic effect than anything else, though may have been used to disguise the use of PS90 semi-automatic civilian models. For some reason this weapon was never fired on screen and was then replaced with the Cx4 Storm most likely because of the Stargate series also filmed in the same location. We can still see P90s in the background but were overshadowed by the Cx4s.
In the Season 2 episodes "Resistance" and "The Farm", a couple of SA80s with the SUSAT scope are seen in the hands of the resistance fighters on Caprica, suggesting that the SA80 is a standard issue rifle in the Colonial military.
Seburo MN-23
In the Miniseries, the Colonial security personnel on Galactica are armed with a bullpup assault rifle. It bears a resemblance to a short-barreled FAMAS with a Picatinny rail mount. This rifle was actually designed by Masamune Shirow for the Dominion: Conflict comic series, and is known as the Seburo MN-23. No known working model of this gun has been seen, so odds are during the mini-series they were the airsoft props with added flashlights. Obviously since this weapon doesn't fire or technical crew changed their minds to the Cx4, this weapon along with the Raisen only appeared briefly during one scene on the Ragnar station during the mini-series. We can assume this rifle is a standard weapon for security personnel onboard Galactica as oppose to what the Marines carry.
The weapon possessed by Leoben Conoy (a Number 2) at Ragnar Station is a fictional variant of the AR-15, known as the Close Quarters Battle Weapon Type Zero, aka the "Raisen". It is a model gun designed by Poseidon Industries of Japan, a company that also makes the Seburo MN-23. In the Mini-series, Leoben's Raisen had a flashlight, sling and sight attachment to it. It is most likely a non firing prop since no known working model of the Raisen has even been seen to my knowledge. Obviously since this weapon doesn't fire or technical crew changed their minds to the Cx4, this weapon along with the MN-23 only appeared briefly during one scene on the Ragnar station during the mini-series.
I actually think it's a Beretta 92SB throughout the entirety of the film, with the exception of maybe that last shot in the 92FS section where is kinda sorta not really looks like a squared trigger guard.I say this because it has an unfinished steel guide rod and a shinier than normal blue finish, something normally only seen on SB models, and aside from the one aforementioned screencap, you usually don't get a clear look at the trigger guard, but when you do, it's round.
FN FAL vs. R1
I am sorry, but I cannot see how anybody can be sure that it is an FN FAL. The film obviously occurs in South Africa, and they obviously have access to a large amount of South African military technology (as exemplified by the presence of R4 series rifles, BXP submachine guns, SS-77 machine guns, NTW-20 anti-material rifles, Atlas Oryx helicopters, and Cassipir armored cars) so how can anyone be sure that this is not an R1. It fits all of the pictures I have seen of earlier-manufactured R1s (which do feature wooden furniture and contain Belgian-made components) and it only makes since that it would be an R1.
