100 year old guns
: After a 100 years of use, all of those guns would have smooth bores-S&Wshooter 20:37, 21 October 2009 (UTC)
::Okay. That comment makes no sense. We're not talking constant use here. If that were the case, all my Mosin Nagant M1891s or Gewehr 98s would be smooth bore muskets now would they? MoviePropMaster2008 21:26, 21 October 2009 (UTC)
:::Hope they keep up on maintainance. Although I wouldn't be surprised if there were a few dozen original production AK-47's being used currently, so at the very least, it's conceivable for there to be AK's/Type 56's functioning after a century of use. I don't know about the HK45 though. I doubt its as rugged as the Kalashnikov. W190009637

:I'm talking about the gun being used every goddamn day for a hundred years, not being used for a few years then put in a warehouse for the better part of a century or sitting in somebodies collection, only being shot every once in a while. If it were used the way I am talking about, the gun would have exceeded it's service life a couple dozen times-S&Wshooter 23:07, 22 October 2009 (UTC)
::How many guns do you know of that were used every "goddamn" day for a 100 years? That's also a ridiculous scenario. MoviePropMaster2008 23:35, 22 October 2009 (UTC)

Maybe I'm reading into this wrong, while the film takes place 100 years in the future. The war happened "30 winters ago". So the guns may only be 30 years old, unless I'm reading into the winters thing wrong. One thing I find interesting while Eli's guns are beat to shit. The others don't seem to be, except for the Hi-Power which is probably one of the oldest guns in the movie. Looks like a kick ass film. Of course most of Denzel's films usually do. -Predator20 04:15, 23 October 2009 (UTC)
:That's assuming that the apocalyptic war that killed most of the world's population takes place ... oh... right now! In the trailer he says it's been 29 years since the end of the war that wiped out most of the people on earth. So the war ends this week or month? When would a future war happen? 5 years from now? 20 years from now? How long would the war last? One week? or ten years? or more? Do you write stories where the apocalypse happens right now? Since people seem to be fixating on that statement, I'll change it to "really old". This was from 'oral accounts' from people who worked on the film. Who knows? They may be wrong. MoviePropMaster2008 04:43, 23 October 2009 (UTC)

:As pointed out, you could assume even if the gun is really old, constant maintenance will keep it going. Though even after a hundred years of use, I'm sure the barrel or at least some of the small parts would need changing. Excalibur01 17:58, 4 December 2009 (UTC)
::I have plenty of 100 year old guns which are just fine and I could take out in the battlefield right now. Sidearms also have holster wear far more than barrel wear. I know of a cop whose duty sidearm was only fired during qualification, but he never (fortunately) fired it in anger during his entire 35 year career, but the gun had a lot of holster wear from pulling it in and out during wear. No one FIRES A GUN for 100 years straight. I am looking at a pristine Turkish Mauser from 1909. It is 100 years old. It looks like it was made yesterday. MoviePropMaster2008 19:18, 4 December 2009 (UTC)

You do need to take into consideration that this is after 100 years of lawlessness in the world, Road Warriors kind of life style. A gun would be used more often in that kind of world than today's world. Well in war zones today, there might be wide uses of firearms. Excalibur01 05:28, 5 December 2009 (UTC)

:It would be like the Ak´s in the middle east or Chechenya, being repaired with everything you can find. Also, look at this picture:
Guerrilla Ak

This is also assuming that they AMMUNITION to use with the guns to shoot every day with.

: It wouldn't be surprising that even in the future post end of the world kind of place that anyone can make bullets by reusing brass casings and with the right equipment and gunpowder. Don't know about shotgun shells though. Excalibur01

I read the film is set in 2043, so the guns shouldn't be in too bad of a condition. --TheManWithNoName 20:10, 8 January 2010 (UTC)

I'm English, and consequently I have very little gun knowledge or experience (except airsoft, if you can even call that gun experience. I'm gonna guess no.) But, I do love films/tv shows/video games with guns in, and that seems like enough of a reason to be on this site!
