Sheriff 001: /* Austen Mk I/II */

The Sten is a British designed submachine gun manufactured in a number of variants (know as Marks or simply Mks) during the Second World War. The official designation was "Carbine, Machine, Sten" which is due to the British term for what we would now call submachine guns being "Machine Carbine" at the start of the war. It was notable for its very simple design and consequently low production costs which made it an ideal weapon for supplying resistance groups. In total approximately 4.5 million Stens were produced, over 2 million of which were the Mark II, which is the iconic Sten gun.
Using the same magazines as the MP40, the Sten is subject to similar errors; the common habit in fiction of using the magazine as a sidegrip would in real life result in damage to the feed lips of the magazine, and the videogame habit of fully loading the magazine would result in spring failures; like the MP40, soldiers experienced in using the Sten would typically load magazines with 30 or 28 rounds rather than 32.

Most of the Indonesian soldiers in the film are armed with the Norinco Type 56, with and without the folding "pig-sticker" bayonets. A PKI militant who helps treat Hamilton after he is beaten by soldiers also carries a Type 56. In reality, Indonesian soldiers in 1965 would have used Soviet-supplied AK-47s rather than the Type 56.
M16A1
Indonesian soldiers fire M16A1 rifles at Hamilton and Jill when they drive through their checkpoint in defiance of a curfew. The use of the M16A1 is an anachronism since the Indonesian military only adopted the rifle in the 1970s, well after the period in which the film is set.

M1 Garand
U.S. Marine guards at the American embassy in Jakarta carry M1 Garand rifles. Later, several Indonesian soldiers surrounding the presidential palace during the coup attempt hold M1 Garands as well.

The Steyr AUG is a Bullpup assault rifle of Austrian origin. It is notoriously made of high grade plastics and is in service with the Austrian, Australian, Irish and New Zealand forces. Note that some Steyr AUG's used in movies are possibly Australian made F88 rifles or civillian market AUG's.

The Steyr AUG series of bullpup assault rifles have appeared in the following movies, television series, and video games used by the following actors:
Steyr later released a version of the AUG bullpup rifle that removed the integral scope and installed a rail so that a scope of the user's choice could be installed. This allows night vision, red dot, and varying power scopes to be used for different purposes. The AUG A2 is the military version. In addition to the AUG S/A (the semi auto version imported into the US), there was a 20" barrel railed version called the AUG Special Receiver. AUG also released a version called the AUG P Special receiver (but with a 16" barrel).

Patriot Games is the 1992 thriller starring Harrison Ford as CIA analyst Jack Ryan, who in this film must thwart a IRA splinter terrorist who wants revenge for the death of his brother that Ryan unknowingly killed. Ford would reprise the Ryan role in the 1994 film Clear and Present Danger.
The Beretta 92FS appears several times in the movie. During the scene in Libya, one of the IRA terrorists is seen firing one, and then Annette (Polly Walker) comes over and tells him to spread his feet further while he shoots. Another is wielded by one of the DSS Agents who goes into the basement in the climax. Annette is seen using one when Dr. Ryan takes her Uzi. The Beretta 92FS (as the M9) is the standard pistol of the US Marine Corps. A Marine Guard shoots dead an IRA assassin in Annapolis with his M9.
Excellent work with the page, it came out great. Thanks for adding his knife and bow, I appreciate it. I also like the trivia section at the bottom. -GM
:Do you like the few shots I added? -GM
::thanks for the deleted scenes, I don't have them on my DVD. FYI, I don't like the M203 shot that you replaced my shot with. Though it shows him firing, it is blurrier than my shot and I posted the previous shot to get a clearer view of how the weapon was mated together. I'm reverting it back. Also thanks for the RGD-1 grenades, but I've already uploaded the files but haven't had time to do the section yet. Great shots of the Knife and bow! I did have some shots of from the grenade 'field' but yours had better color so I ended up not using mine.
:I should have asked before I changed the M203 shot. Your right, yours was better. Sorry I stole your grenade section.

*It should be noted that while the armourers uses MISRs because authentic Russian weapons were unavailable, they are correct for the Mujahideen because Egyptian rifles were supplied to the Mujahideen by the United States.

Moved discussion from movie page
-Actually Norinco made a copy of the M203 40mm grenade launcher to be used with AK type weapons. As does Romania. So this setup is believable -Spectre85
::No it is ridiculous ... since the weapon is supposed to be RUSSIAN, not Chinese (since the weapon was taken off of a Spetnaz Sergeant) and the Russians never used M203 or clones of the M203 during this time period. Also I've never heard of a Norinco M203 so please furnish a link or something to prove this. This is very intriguing information.
-http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AG-40 Here is a link for the Romanian AG-40 -Spectre85
::It's still ridiculous because it's anachronistic. None of these M203 rip off clones were made in the 1980s when the film was shot and set. So the set up is ridiculous. MPM2008

Did'nt the Mujahideen use captured AK's with a M203 attached? Obviously supplied by the CIA with GL's ammo, and the rifle ammo they scrounged for. I do vaguely remember an abs model kit version with wooden stock AK & M203GL that was available in the mid 1980's.
::I collected all the ABS kits from the 1980s and I think you're remembering something which did not exist. As for the CIA, except for the Stingers, all the small arms they supplied were Soviet in design.

- As far as the multiple shots from the M203, Rambo picks up at least two grenades from the sand after defeating Sgt. Kourov. With one already chambered in the launcher, he could have three or four shots. He is seen reloading it when he and Trautman are taking cover in the ditch.
::I think the loading scene is the FIRST grenade. He never reloads after the battle starts, of course this could have been edited out or not shot. There is another scene mentioned in the film where Rambo picks up an enemy gun and the shot was removed by the editor and makes it look like Rambo magically as a new rifle. MPM2008

T-64
Based on the Western-style fume extractor I suspect the tank is an Israeli Ti-67 with a 105mm gun vice a true T-64, same as was used on The Beast.
::Wrong. It's a T-62. Sure they may have added on some mods, but it's NOT a T64. The the Ti-67 from the Beast is a modified T-55, not a 62.

Also, the FN MAG isn't really missing the butt, that's the correct configuration when firing from a mount. The butt comes off and you just attach the rear plate.

The Uzi is carried by several terrorists in the film, and most notably by Doumer (Colm Meaney).
Ryback takes a suppressed Heckler & Koch MP5K and carries it throughout the film. At the time of the making of the film, it was a common weapon in Steven Seagal movies, the MP5K (not the PDW) but adapted to take a suppressor.
Some of the "MP5"s are full auto conversions of the Heckler & Koch HK94 rifle. One of the terrorists uses a long barreled HK94 with a 'slip over' fake suppressor to fire.

Steyr AUG
During the opening takeover of the Missouri, terrorists are seen repelling with Steyr AUG's slung behind their backs.

M4
A Marine guard holds an M4-style rifle when he's taken out by terrorists. Since the Marine makes a high fall, the weapon probably is a rubber stunt weapon. Navy SEALs who prepare to assault the Missouri are seen chambering their M4's as well.
SWD M11/9
Both Ryback and Granger (Troy Evans) use Cobray M11/9 submachine guns commandeered from the terrorists.

Phalanx CIWS
The terrorists commandeer the USS Missouris Phalanx CIWS (Close In Weapons System) to shoot down an F/A-18 Hornet.

16"/50 caliber Mark 7 - United States Naval Gun
9 16"/50 caliber Mark 7 - United States Naval Guns form the main armament of the Iowa class battleship. They were used to destroy the North Korean submarine. Dialogue established that Missouri carried 1000 projectiles. They were also seen firing in archival footage of the USS Missouri in action.

5"/38 caliber gun
These guns formed the secondary armament of the Missouri. Originally 20 were carried, but the number was reduced 12 in the Reagan-era modernisation. In the film, star shells were used to illuminate the North Korean submarine.

FIM-92A Stinger
The terrorists fire FIM-92A Stinger missiles at the approaching SEAL helicopters.

Rubber guns
* During the initial assault many of the terrorists are using obviously rubber weapons. They are cast from the real deal and used in any scene where stunts occur. It is much safer to wave around and hit other actors with rubber guns than the real thing.

Also called the FN LAR (Light Automatic Rifle), a named ascribed to the FN FAL in Europe. The fact that there are so many variants, made by different countries and different names for the same models, causes a lot of confusion regarding what particular FAL is in what movie. For the most part, only the major variants of the gun will have been seen in movies with wide distribution, (the original Belgium version, U.S. versions, the Israeli Versions and British/Commonwealth Version).
